Welcome to NICO!

Try a search on stumble. You don't specify other intake and fuel system maintenance. Have you had it scanned for codes?

Do hope you used the correct NGK plug per Infiniti specifications.

ty for the reply no i havent had it seen for codes and yes i used the correct plugs i had a bad feeling it might be the coil packs but wasnt sure did u have all your packs changed or did u narrow it down to a certain one and if so does the code check diagnose that or is there another procedure for it? do you know where to get the coil packs for a good price in new york they run about $170 each?

What are coil packs???? Never heard of them, new CEL but not coil packs.

Have you changed your fuel filter? That would seem like a no brainer.

ignition coils, coil packs same thing :D

my cars doing the same I just need to figure out if one of the coils is bad or a few of them are bad intermittently

I would suggest starting with a tune up new plugs ngk only, filters, clean throttle body and intake, run injector cleaner bg44k, theeeennn go from there

I did that and now I'm at the ignition coils/coilpacks

I'm having the same problem with my 96Q and it's getting worse. The car will actually stall periodically at idle and when waiting to pull out on the street (dangerous). I've had two mechanics attempt to diagnose with no success. One mechanical specializes in Nissan/Infiniti. They've cleaned the throttle body and changed the fuel filter. Diagnostic machine reveals no problem. Previous posts mention the coil packs, is there any way for a "home mechanic" to test them?

your problem with your 96 sounds slightly more severe than a bad coilpack, I would search the forum for stalling and see what else comes up. A bad coil or a few wouldnt cause the car to stall just to run rough

but anyways my ghetto home method of checking coils is to unplug on at a time until I find which one is randomly missing when the kick goes away... let me explain... with all eight coils plugged in the engine runs on 8 cylinders and kicks when there is a miss in one of the coils. If I unplug one then the car runs on 7 cylinders. If the car kicks more even when running on 7 cylinders I know the coil I unplugged is not the bad coil. When I find the bad coil the car will run on 7cyl with no more kicks and jerks

thats my ghetto way of testing coils... refer to the fsm to test them the correct way or buy one new ignition coil/coil pack and swap it with the old coils until you find the bad one

lonster, your problem sounds more like a bad or dirty MAF or connector. You should carefully pull the connector and clean it up well. You might also try cleaning the MAF element according to instructions on Q45.org:

http://www.q45.org/maf.html

Search the Q45 Forum, and Infiniti Online Mechanic for MAF (be sure to search "post bodies", and "archived" as well as "recent") , and you'll get a lot of info on MAFs and stalling. Do you get any bucking on mild acceleration, too?

You should also check your transmission fluid level. If the level is low, the torque converter can lock up at rest, stalling the engine.

The 96 doesn't have coilpack problems.
