I have recently purchased - '01 Infiniti QX4 w/39K miles. Evenly one week of enjoyment of owning this wonderful SUV, the service engine soon warning light appears, this past Friday - Jun. 24. From the several forums I've checked and read, I am still needing assistance of what direction I shall precede first to get this looked at. What I am thinking is to get it checked at AutoZone first before going to an Infiniti and/or Nissan dealer.

One issue I am thinking what may have caused the warning light to appear. I was not aware the QX4 required Premium Gasoline until this past Friday, which of course my 1st tank was Regular gasoline until my 2nd tank then I realized by reading the inside of the gas tank cover Premium is highly recommended.

P.S. I do have factory warranty on it as well.

Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Likely is an O2 sensor, but it can be something else. Take it to Autozone and read the code. If premium is recommended use it, especially if the vehicle is under warranty. Manufacturers retain the right tgo deny warranty claims if you don't follow the operating instructions (including type of fuel) or maintanance at proper service intervals.

Take it to Infiniti dealer to have them look at it if it is under warranty. Don't think about it, just take it. Try not to mention your misstake about regular gas. It is the least likely problem of service eng soon light on!Cheers!

Thank you for the last few responses.

I have taken it to AutoZone, received the number crossed P0420 (twice).

I've contacted Infiniti of Tacoma (closest to home), was advised I have Powertrain warranty until 2006 in which will cover as the ECM needs to be reprogrammed (whatever that means?).

My last question is, when I take the QX4 to them to get the issued fixed, being if it is fully covered under the warranty above, what other fees may I incur from out of the pocket, if any? Do I have to pay for labor? Or any misc. fees I am not aware of?

Again any responses is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I would top up the QX4 with some premium just in case they run an octane test with a sample of gas from your tank. At its worst (and depending on tha amount) it would give you a higher octane grade than a tankful of regular.
