Well, I got my knocking motor apart & looks like both 5 & 6 rod journals got spun pretty bad. So bad infact, that both rod bearings were gone! Looking at these pics, do you think the crank & rods are salvageable?

I get 2.033 on my caliper. The motor is completely stock. After looking at a couple other rod bearings, most are worn down to the copper. Pretty sure it was an oil pressure issue, as the crank pulley did not seem to take much torque to get off, plus the oil pick-up o-ring was broken in two.

it looks like the crank could be turned i dint se any realy hot spots but it will need to be checked for cracks. if it passes the magnaflux then get it turned . the rods look to be saveable but i would have them put new bolts in the 2 rods at least when they resize them.

Repair by stroking it.

to be honest the crank looks turnable but the rods probably a no go! really hard to say with out physically seeing the parts and measuring! but best of luck!

Thanks, I'll have the machine shop check out the crank & rods, but I definitely need 1 good rod, as #1 is slightly bent.

Anyone?

Another spun #6 journal and low oil pressure! That really is appearing to be a major weakness!

Mine did the same but the crank had cracked there as well.

I'd increase clearances a bit bit as that may make the motor a bit louder but seems to help a lot with oiling issues.

With the new motor I'll be fitting it will get pulled down, the crank ground and new bearing with about 2/1000 clearance fitted.

You said there were NO bearings left? Holy crap...

Those look to be pretty rough in both pics so idk.. But it's hard to tell without seeing em in person as said before.

Yep- 5 & 6 had NO bearings in site, gone. Also, just noticed that rod #1 was slightly bent. Someone beat the piss out of this motor. I'll have the machine shop look at the crank to see if it's ok.

For the price of rebuilding these engines, you can buy 3 or 4 great running used engines.

If the oiling problem happened while you were driving, was it low on oil or because your were cornering hard? The reason I ask is that you don't want this to happen again, so you need to find the cause.

I have two good engines for sale, drop me an email if interested.

I bought this engine as a rebuildable core really cheap, looks like I got my monies' worth! I really feel the crank bolt was the culprit here- it took virtually no effort to get off with the impact.

I honestly don't mind spending money on the rebuild, hopefully it all works out well & I'll have a like new VH.
