I've got a '96 sx se and i'd like to buy a set of 17x7.5's with a +42 mm offset. The recommended tire size for these are 215/45's but i'd like to fill up the wheel well a little more. i'm not worried about the odometer reading but i am worried about rubbing. would a 215/50 work?

when you say youd like it to fill up the wheel well...you mean you want the tire to come close to the fender lip right? and then have a meaty tire...

not going to work with a +42, if you have or want to get coilovers then a meaty tire it will rub on the coilover, with a 7.5 width youd be better with something between like a +22 and +32, and then you could run a 225/45/17 tire, and youll be fine

thanks for the reply. The 225/45/17 tire would only yeild about 1/10 of an inch taller tire, with a lower profile and wider than the 205/55/16 stock tire.

i just installed KYB gr-2 stuts and shocks and want to upgrade the wheels without effecting the suspension. I tried a friend's 225/55/17's with a 38 offset and got a little rubbing in the corners. what do you think about a 205/50/17?

Go with lower offsets, our cars arent front wheel drive.

Wow,

I'd be willing to bet he pulled that wheel fitment straight from Sport Compact Car.

but then forgot the part where SCC has an S13, a 5mm spacer, and its wheel fitment still sucks.

i found some ASA wheels i liked, unfortunately 43 offset's. i realize i should go much lower i just can't find anything i like....most aftermarkets are too...........well, let's just say i want a clean, uncluttered look.

if you have any suggestions on manufacturers i'd love to hear them.

you cant run a 225/55/17 on this car, youd need a lift to make it fit

trust me a 225/45/17 with even a slight drop fills it up fine, ive seen plenty of pictures

heck even my car with stock 4x4 the 225/50/16 i have, which are equal to 225/45/17, fill it up fairly nicely

as you can see in this pic, a 225/45 looks good from the side on a 17x7.5

and here you can see how scc shouldve gotten a lower offset, and instead had to use spacers
