Jack up the car with e-brake on. Remove tire. Remove caliper and rotor. Knock out 2 bad studs, and insert 2 new ones in. Tighten down the studs, so that they fully set into the hub. Reinstall rotor, caliper, and whell. Torque down the studs...

Pretty straight forward I just did one on my fronts, as I had to shear it off with the stock L wrench by hand, as the threads came loose while removing the lug nut in an emergency!!! Long story....

I am kinda doubting my knowledge as I told you to jack it up with the ebrake on, for the rears, then told you to remove the caliper hahaha.

If you havent done it yet a few more tips... First when you torque the studs into the hub, a stack of washers to compensate for the rotor and wheel would be handy.

The ring your friend talks about might have been the abs sensor ring, if you have abs.. Might be the dustsheild but thats a far stretch as to calling it a ring.

I dont think the abs sensor ring would be a problem though, if you where to have one. I dont see why they would allow it to hinder with a stud R&R as one would then have to pull the hub.
