for starters, what the heck is a shifting/shafting gear? do you mean the lock mechanism that allows you to shift out of park only when the brake is pressed?
if so, then it sounds like you have a cross-short somewhere in your stop light circuit. the shift lock senses a hot brake light circuit to allow you to shift out of park. if your right turn signal turns on steady when you press the brake, and you can only shift out of park when you turn on the right turn signal, then the computer is obviously confusing the 2 signals.
this could be a hard circuit to back trace, but just start at the end of the circuit (bulbs) and work your way back with a multimeter. or take it to the shop.
