This freakin crazy. I posted this on zilvia, but that thread is getting a bit messy and people stopped responding today lol. any ways, back ground info:

91 240Red Top SR20DET with new HG and most gaskets replacedStock everything except Turbo XS boost controller (just open for now) and HKS BOV (not recirc)Stock SR Down Pipe with 3" down pipe back straight exhaustWalbro 255cc fuel pump. anything else just ask.

Ok, so timing was set not to0 long ago, but for some reason was still having trouble at idle. Found out it was only running on 3 cylinders. #2 wasn't getting any fuel. switched out injectors and still no fuel. changed out everything, plugs, coil packs, injectors...everything works in all other cylinders except #2. Just did a compression test, 160 on all four. Even checked out electric stuff (cont and volt), everything is the same on all four as far as harness for injectors and coil packs. When i did the compression test, the 2nd plug did have a faint smell of gas, but a lot of carbon build up. I am just totally lost.

Review:Perfect compressionWiring done rightChanged out all plugs, injectors, coil packsI hate my motorPlease help

When the car is running, we can pull out the 2nd coil pack and nothing changes. it still runs like crap, but not worse. I dont understand. Its all mechanically sound yet still doesn't work in that damn 2nd cylinder.

Can a clogged fuel rail cause only ONE cylinder to be starved of fuel? and if so, the #2 cylinder?

Please help!! Any help will be greatly appreciated, i just wanna drive my car. thanks in advance.

Possible that you have so much carbon behind the intake valve that the fuel is not spraying in correctly? You might have to pull the intake and do some scraping.

First I would look for a vacuum leak that only affects that one cylinder, like in the intake manifold-to head gasket, or a vacuum port that is left unplugged in that area. That could make it go so lean on #2 that it won't fire possibly...

intake mani seems not to be clogged or blocked, but at this point anything and is possible. Vac lines seem to be ok, but will run another check thru them all. back to the garage for now.

You said you checked everything electrical, however you said taking out the 2nd coil pack doesn't change anything. Sounds like your not getting spark on your 2nd pack. Be sure ALL of your connectors to the coilpack are clear of corrosion. Have you tried using another coilpack on there?

I'm assuming you replaced your injectors with clean, new injectors, so none of them should be clogged. I doubt the fuel rail would be clogged enough, and also you stated that you could smell gasoline in the second cylinder.

RedTop91 had a similar problem which turned out to be dirty connections on his coilpack wiring. Ha, I remember driving it was comparable to a tractor.

all coil packs work. when we pull out the coil pack just a bit, you can hear it clicking off, same with the injector to just to test it. when we pull the injector out after it doenst work, there is fuel in there and it falls into the chamber. once turn on again, engine runs awesome, for like 5 seconds, once fuel is burnt off, car is **** again. Its getting plenty of spark, NO FUEL. only in that ONE cylinder which happens to be #2.

seriously, we tried EVERYTHING we could think of to test out what could be wrong. everything is perfect in every other cylinder except #2. And i think it smelled of gas because we put the spark plugs in random order(s).

It makes no sense. I hate this POS motor.

You might want to get a "Niod" light and plug it in to that injector plug to make sure it is being fired properly and has good ground. Prolly have to borrow one from a tech if you don't have access to one.

Every time the computer fires the injector the light lights. You are looking to see the light flickering on and off fast like an injector. If it stays on all the time, you have shorted wiring and the injector is on all the tiem, which would flood out that cyl. No light, and you have either a bad ground to that injector or no power to it.

Anything inside your fuel rail would have to pass through your fuel filter. No way anything big enough to clog the rail could get through.

Another possible cause of a big vacuum leak there is the injector seal itself where it fits into the intake mani. Double check that too!

yup she runs, just really bad. Did some research and found that I could use my old KA CTS, now i'm just waiting on getting a Q45 igniter chip. lol i almost pulled the chip out my Frontier (VQ motor ) but figured i just better be patient.

Its just one of those stupid things that is causing this. Although it is running like crap, it runs and it is a good feeling to hear that turbo spool up and the BOV go off. Just can't wait to drive it tho. I will keep you guys updated, but if you can think of anything to help me get rid of my headache, please let me know. Thanks.

So I'm guessing you are pretty certain it is the ignitor chip and CTS?

Glad to hear it man - don't forget pics!

I've just replaced the CTS for now, but haven't tried. I thought you asked if the ***** ran period. It runs as it sits, but really bad. I will update-cha when i get the igniter chip that i just paid for.

So two of your injectors aren't firing? If you have a stuck injectors, I dont think you'll throw a code.

Ok, ga, what a headache - so you've got all 4 injectors squeezing, all 4 spark PLUGS are firings, as you did say you switched them up and what not.

So its gotta be that spark somewhere within ignitor. . .

It better be that damned chip.

P.S. Gorgeous swap - how long did it take to intially get the engine in and the engine at idle?

That pic was from my Camera phone at night. It does it no justice.

hard to say. Took the old KA out within like an hour and my SR was sitting in the garage for a while awaiting parts. Replaced Head Gasket along with other gaskets, bled lifters, installed greddy RAS, ect and put it all back together. Only part that took the longest was waiting for parts. Still waiting for one thing lol. dropped in the engine and hooked most stuff up in about one weekend. Tried taking stuff slow, so say we dropped it in sat-sun, got it running the following week. had a hell of a time with the timing and CAS. now the stupid hoe dont run correctly.

Praying the new parts will fix it all. Trying to make it to the Balcony soon and i cannot wait!

OK back to thread, still waiting on Q45 igniter chip...

Remove the fuel rail, have someone crank the engine over and see if all of the injectors appear to be spraying properly.

have you tried a different ecu yet?

if you have stuck injectors, you can lightly tap them with a hammer to loosen them up and fire again

All injectors are firing for sure. I dont have another ecu to try out, but i wish i did. If it was the ECU, would it throw out code 55, which means everything is working as it should?

Well, if it comes to it, and you can't find someone local to you to swap ECU's over for a check, let me know, and I'll FedEx you mine to try. My redtop runs fine so I know the ECU is good.

wow, i really appreciate the thought bro. I hope once this chip comes in, a mix of that and the new CTS will make this bish work. But I'll deff keep you in mind if i can't find some1 around here. Only prob is its pretty hard to find any1 that will.

Bad ECU throwing out a 55, ugh not what i wanted to hear. Chip was sent out today and will hopefully get here sooner than later. Thanks again to every1 who as posted here. Once i get it running I'll throw a big party and you are all invited, you figure out how to get here tho lol.

Well changing out the CTS and Igniter chip did absolutely nothing. I dont know what to do now. I've tried different vac line set ups with boost controller and no boost controller, changed everything out, pulled fuel rail out and cranked motor and injectors are working fine, coil packs work, this motor sucks ***.

I seriously have no idea what is next. Would a bad ECU cause only half the motor to not run correctly? How about a ground somewhere? Would something in the plenum or runners clog up oxygen from getting into only 2 cylinders? I need god at this point.

I'm having similar problems and I feel your pain. I still need to do a compression test however if your car was running a lil rich like mine. I would think that intake mani. is clogged... Just a thaught, I'm ready to take mine out and clean it.

Ok, so let me get this straight. You had the noid light flashing properly on #2? or not.

Also, how did you determine you are only running on 2 cylinders? What other cyl is dead?

1 n 3 run , 2 n 4 dont. very ez to figure that out, dont need to explain. Injectors work fine, it has to be a firing order issue. i need to find how to wire a Q45 igniter chip. we think it is wrong cuz the injectors and spark plugs are firing off at wrong times. i am going to search right now, but a link would deff help cuz its 1130 and we are still in the garage.
