I posted a similar thread a while back and got good feedback so I want to try again... I'm in the process of converting my 1996 240sx automatic to a manual... everything is done, the car won't start and we have no idea why.. All the mechanical stuff is put in, the starter plug on fuse box is jumpered to its self, the small 2 wire plug below the fuse box is jumpered to its self, the reverse light wires are ran from fuse box to trans but not hooked up.. There aren't any sensors on the clutch pedal that I have..ALSO, the car and transmission harness are for a s14, the transmission is a s13, no crank angle sensor...

When we turn the key everything gets power.. headlights, radio, etc.. but the engine doesnt turn, doesnt make any sound at all.. Please help me get this car running, I need it ASAP. Thanks

The clutch pedal should have a momentary switch somewhere that closes the circuit when the clutch is pressed all the way down. The engine won't crank unless that circuit is closed. Dunno if that applies to a 5-spd swap, or if that can just be left out altogether. Also, auto trans setup has a switch that lets it crank only in park. If that circuit isn't taken care of when swapping to 5-spd, the car won't crank. Dunno if you closed that circuit as needed. But my best first guess is one of those two. They seem to be common steps to miss / forget / skip / overlook / whatever when doing a 5-spd swap.

Well, I followed the guides for it to the letter. Most people say no clutch pedal sensors are needed. I have no idea what else to look at.

Unfortunately, doing the steps does not guarantee that the procedure will be successful. Ask me how I know :gapteeth: Are you sure you jumped the auto trans park safety switch? I mean, can you tell me specifically which step in the guide bypassed that safety switch. Like "I jumped the (color) wire to the (other color) wire that go to X connection." DId you test to verify that it worked? If you ARE sure of all that, I'd move on to some diagnostics. Grab a multimeter. Disconnect the control lead that goes to the starter and see if it gives 12v when the key is turned to START. If no 12v, follow and check the lines back from there. Check both sides of every junction (connector, fuse, relay, etc) for power until you find power. Then troubleshoot that junction (including control circuits for relays, and those lines too). If there is 12v, check the starter primary power lead for 12v. And make sure the engine has a good ground to the chassis. Best I got for now :dblthumb:

Well I cant quite remember off the top of my head... but I believe the park safety switch was where gotta drill hole in front of shifter, run 2 wires from trans to ecu, splice wires, attach ground.

If you have any doubts, double check that part. Either way, couldn't hurt to grab a multimeter and check the wires - the right voltage, where and when it's supposed to be - takes a minute for simple reassurance. From there, try the rest of that stuff I metioned. If you dont have a multimeter, I highly suggest you invest in at least a halfway not-crappy one, and learn to at least test for power and ground. If you already can, awesome :) Electrical stuff can be a pain even to those who are good at it, so if you already have multimeter skills, you're that much better off. So yeah, test those wires, then test those other wires :bigthumb:

Just an update, we got the car running. It was only getting power to one of the starter cables..had to finish 5 speed sensor wiring and plug the starter cable and plug under fuse box together.
