Hey AC Buddies, my car was just stolen from me 24 hours ago. Long story short, my girlfriend lost my car keys and while we were looking for it in her apartment, I noticed a shady dark male standing behind my car... Once I ran downstairs to my car, my car was gone.

I filed a police report and drove everywhere looking for it. Cop said, since it is a black hood on a red car, chances are a little bit higher for recovery. In addition, since my car wasn't technically broken into... maybe the guy who found my keys just took it for a joyride and not the chop shop.

Chances are, I'm probably never seeing that car again... but I figure, what the heck, what do I have to lose for posting a thread and getting some help from the altima coupe committee.

Car was located @ Miami Florida 2/22/13 8pm Est.

3 Noticable things from the exterior of my car.

Matte Black Plasti Dipped Hood
It has Topspeed Pro 1 Exhaust
Plasti Dipped rims

If anyone have tips, or etc. Please email me at [email protected]

Thanks for your help.
Stephen

Sorry to hear about that, man, that blows. If I lived in that area I'd keep an eye out but I'm far off.

I imagine it would stick out, good luck in finding it!

I registered to reply to this because my car was stolen the day before (or very early that morning)....but I had 1995 Altima GLE. How far do you live from North Miami?

Not here to hijack, but maybe we will both get lucky...

Hey guys!

Good News, I found my stolen vehicle!

After reviewing the security camera in my girlfriend's apt association. We found the suspects! This kid was walking around the parking lot with my key hitting the "unlock" feature on the remote trying to find my car (btw that was very painful to watch). After 30 mins, he took the car when he saw no one watching him. However, since it was night time and the security camera was about 150 meters away, it wasn't clear when he stepped into my car and it's not valid proof. You know what the funny thing is? This kid lives in my apartment building same floor just a few doors down and I've been told by the police "not to do anything stupid"

The car was in near perfect condition from how he took it, a few dents in the front right bumper but at this point, who cares... I got it back. Nothing was stolen (Mechanically and Exterior Wise) but everything inside is gone (not much) including my insurance papers, school books and etc.

My stolen vehicle was actually reported by Neighborhood Crime watch and it was literally less than 1 mile away from where it was stolen... I asked police to call CSI to take fingerprints but upon arrival, I have no key to open the car so he advised me there is nothing he can do...

There is a security guard who works at my association that is willing to testify that he saw my vehicle 3 days after it was stolen being driven by a black male, and a hispanic male... which fits the description perfectly because it was the same two kids in my apartment security camera.

At this point, its all up to the detectives.

Hey buddy, don't give up. There was times when everyone told me that it was gone and there was nothing you can do.... ignore them. Just drive around your neighborhood and look for your car.... I know the chances are slim but it's better than no chance at all, check craiglist, autotrader, and keep calling the police for any updates! I wish you the best of luck and if I see your vehicle, i'll def give u a reply here. I actually live IN North Miami Beach.

LMAO...

OP; There isn't a whole lot one can do to keep their car from being stolen, especially by a professional. Best things to do to avoid a break in or theft is simple, dont leave anything valuable visible inside the car, always lock it, park in a hightraffic parking area (lots of other cars/people), park next to lights, etc. Small things can mean the difference! Real happy to see you got the car back, I caught someone looking to steal my car last fall, things will be done for security when I can :(..

My ex "lost" my spare AC key on a NJ transit train. Funny thing is, other things in the "lost" bag turned up, but my keys never did. Psycho...

So would the car be salvaged in this case since it was reported stolen? How does that work?

Well sure, but I've seen cars for sale that are considered salvaged solely due to the fact that it was just stolen. No damage to the frame though. Maybe stolen interior or something? I know my friend had his mustang stolen and they took his headlights and car seats, so it was salvaged because of that.

UPDATE: Car found after I canceled my insurance on it...

Surprisingly nothing inside was taken except the change that was in the armrest....No broken windows, but I now have to slam the door to properly close it and the plastic moulding on the bottom of the driver side door is broken off, and the engine is toast. I started it up and all kinds of different colored smoke came out of it. And it overheated pretty fast. I'm guessing they just took it out for a joyride or for a drug run...well I now have closure.

Car was found parked two blocks up the road day before yesterday.

Why would you cancel insurance on a car that was stolen in the first place?

Having someone say "a black and hispanic male" driving it is worth zero in court lol...
