ok time to pick your guys heads...... my car is a 2005 g35 coupe A/T. i did a oil change recently (4 mths ago) lol but i started to notice a little tick from my motor when i was checking my tire pressure. so i poped the hood and checked my oil and it wasnt even on the dipstick!!! scared i might have ran it to low i got 3 courts of royal purple (5w30 syn.) and finally got it to show again on the dip stick. i did a little research and i see they had a oil consuption problem ..... now from what i can see its only on ones with 6sp M/T? i dont get ehy the stick shift option would make a difference but i guess it does.... so now im puzzled my car just turned 70k and runs great! i put it on a lift and theres not one drop of a oil leak to be found anywhere ...... my car dont smoke at all and it leaks no oil....... im lost.... please help...... :wtf2:

Mine has used oil since day one. You need to check your oil weekly. The L mark on the dipstick is two quarts low and I've never let mine go below the 1/2 way mark to L which is one quart low. Mine still runs like new. I use 5w-30 whatever is on sale and change oil every 3k-3.5k miles

called infinity and they told me #1 i was running 5w30 royal purple and my motor i guess to there knowlage dosnt do well with synthetic oils. so what the service tech told me was i need to get it to a place asap and get the oil changed and try running 10w30 instead of the 5w30. so needless to say i just got back from picking it up from having the oil changed back to (dealership used mobil 1) 10w30. hope it helps ......

How many miles did it take you to go through 3+ quarts of oil? If it was less than 3,000, you do have a serious consumption problem. Do you see any leaks? Has the consumption rate increased recently?

Consumption up to a quart in 1,000 miles is still considered acceptable. You can buy a lot of oil for the price of a rebuilt engine if you have to pay for the rebuild yourself.

I don't see the difference between 5W30 and 10W30. The first number only applies to a cold engine. Both are 30 weight at operating temperature.

I run 5W30 mineral oil (Valvoline, not that it's any better than the others) rather than synthetic. Synthetic is specified for some cars (typically German) and I would run only synthetic in them. However, after reading what Blackstone Labs has to say about oil, I decided that there was no significant benefit to the extra cost of synthetic. I change oil and filter every 3,750 miles. Since my car often sits at home for several days in a row, I don't worry about the time between changes.
