I have a 2005 Altima 3.5 (70,000 miles) the transisiion wouldn't shift one day. My husband turned it off and disconnected the battery cable and then it ran fine for the next week. Then I started it one morning and put it in reverse and it jerked hard. We took it to the dealership and they said it was the throttle positioning sensor (that I replaced a year ago) needs to be reprogrammed, so they reprogrammed it and nothing changed. Then they said it was the Transmission Control Module, so I took it to a local mechaninc because I couldn't afford their price and he replaced the part and took it to them for programming and then they say that wasn't the problem and it needs a new transmission. The car runs fine half the time and the other half the transmission won't shift or sometimes it just jerks when you put it in gear and then shifts and runs perfectly. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I can't replace the transmission for the dealership to then say oops that wasn't it, for the third time.

The only help I can give you is you need a copy of the FSM for your vehicle.
For the past thirty five years or so I've purchased the Factory Service Manuals for every vehicle that I've purchased. For my G35 the four volumes weigh over ten lbs and are over 1000 pages. The paper version cost me $300 but if I were to get into a situation like you are having that is where I would start reading.
The FSM describe various problems and lead the factory technicians down a logical path to finally locate the problem. If the first step in the manual said to replace throttle positioning sensor then at least you would know that the dealer was following the correct procedure. However since it did not correct the problem you could have told the dealer to put the old one back and move on to next step ie control module if that is what in fact the manual is specifying.
Just replacing a bunch of parts without having a roadmap is a costly waste of time and money.

Good luck

I'm assuming this is an automatic. I would suggest checking/changing the trans fluid if it's never been done as well.
