I just had my S14 SR20DET swapped into my S14 zenki by a mechanic a friend referred. I do not really know the mechanic who did the swap and much about the SR's....this one is my first. Anyways, my question is which parts are interchangeable between the S13 SR's and S14??? Since I don't know much about the engines...I'm afraid the mechanic might switch out some parts from my S14 sr to his S13 sr.

The mechanic runs the S15 BB T28 and I believe he said I have the non-BB T28. An HKS actuator also came with the turbo on mine so I know that....also is I believe a Tomei exhaust manifold. These should be too obvious to take, but how about the transmission? We both have the 5spd...are there any differences between them?? Differences on appearance??? I'd really hate for him to swap in his older 5 spd for my newer one...

Injectors?? Or are they the same at 370??? or watever?? Pistons?? How about the VVT?? Can he switch the cams between s14 and s13??

Anything else I should be aware of??

Thanks everyone!!

S14 SRs come with a ball bearing T28 turbo. It's not the same as the S15's, though.

As far as cam swapping goes, if he did swap the cams out, your VVT would have had to have been disabled. I don't believe that the S14 intake sprocket will bolt up to an S13 cam. I could be wrong though. Either or, the VVT is actuated by a big funky looking thing on the sprocket.

The S14 transmissions are rumoured to be slightly strongr, but I have a feeling that's more internet hearsay than anything. Internally, there's no major differences between the S13 and S14 transes.

S13 and S14 SRs use the same 370cc injectors. The pistons are the same as well, and trust me, you would know if he had swapped pistons out. It's not a fun and quick process to get the pistons out, plus it would require destroying the headgasket when you remove the head. And he wouldn't gain anything from swapping them out except time lost.

If you go to our RWD SR section and read the FAQ, I list out most of the major parts differences.

Anyways, what's leading you to believe that this guy is so shady and would steal?

I must admit that I would rather not doubt anyone who's helping out but he is not charging me anything for the swap....I did hint that I will compensate him for his work if he did a good job.

I trusted him because I rode in his s13 and it is in great condition and I liked his work ethic. He paid alot of attention to details. Everything was ok in the beginning...he was very open and helpful, and on the same token I didn't want to bother him too much so I'd follow up with him like once or twice a week but in the same time letting him know that he could call me anytime for updates. He does have a regular job so I understood that he could only do the swap during his free time.

Then he started telling me problems with my turbo...weird cuz he said it was good in the beginning. Anyways, i figure the stock turbo that came with the car should probably be going out soon anyways. But when I asked to see the turbo....he refused and made all kinds of excuses to not show it me. I started to be suspicious....then he wouldn't allow me or my boyfriend to be there while he worked on the car. It took about two and a half to three months then he calls and says that the engine is in and that I could drive my car home.

That was just yesterday. I haven't picked up the car yet because its not completely done and is missing da fan shroud, so I'll probably have to get electric fans. Also the intercooler is not hooked up.....I have no pipes....so the turbo does not work....but i do have a R33 GTR stock intercooler ( i know this is kind of off topic. But could I use the GTR intercooler if I had a shop fabricate the pipings?)

Anyways, I guess I wana say that I trust the guy, but some of my friends insist that I should double check and make sure. So here I am doing some homework...cuz if he did I'll be so MAD...

Thanks for the info by the way...!!!

If you're fabbing up pipes you can use just about any intercooler made under the sun.

A little shady, but I will say that when I'm working on cars for other people, especially something like a motor swap, I hate having the owner around. They tend to get undefoot way too easily and distract from the work.

3 months does sound like a long time, especially if he didn't even bother putting the intercooler in.

If you ask some of the board members in the SR section, someone can post up the turbo information for the S14 T28 (part number label on the turbo etc) so you can identify it against the one on your car if you want to make sure that this guy didn't do a swap on you.
