Kango, Have you looked around at all? I believe there are a couple threads on this in the past if I'm not mistaken.

yeah I realized that there was another thread about Autopage RS-1000 which was very helping. I know... I should've looked around bit more.

I had a Code Alarm CA421 put in my ride and it's been doing a good job and cost me ~$250 out the door. I'm sure you can get another model with an alarm.

Other aftermarket makers are available. Just look for one where you don't need to give up one of your key fobs to operate because they hide it in the car.

giving up the key fob has NOTHING to do with the make of the remote start alarm... the relay module needed to not give up your fob is pretty much compatible with all aftermarket alarms...

Just saying thats what I had installed. The key message being, don't go to an installer that says you need to give up your key fob to make it work, they don't know what they are doing. It's suprising how many shops want to do this and its just wrong.

Information on the relay might be of help to this guy when he goes in and talks to an installer.

Doc,

What would be the cheapest, safest, and most reliable solution for remote start.

I am not worried about theft.

Hmmmm, if you don't want bells and whistles, the average person can't get even the cheapest one installed out the door for less than $400... the prices people have been reporting here are not reasonable! usually, shops charge about $400 in labor for a remote start, no matter what the brand or how expensive the actual remote is!

that is a complete rip off 400 beans for just a remote start ...here their 125-150 installed and this company does most of the cars in the greater area. The only price bump is if you need the key bypass module which is 75 bucks bought from them.

I'm not resonding to this nonsense with an explanation... I've done so repeatedly in other threads on remote start systems... the da*n alarms cost $150 at dealer cost... if they install it out the door for $125.. not only are they losing money on the alrms themelves, but thjey are doing the labor for free!

Aghain DJ Max, since you asked the question.... the absolute cheapest you'd find someone willing to sell you a plain old plain remote start system would probably be around $60-&70. However, the install is the thing that will drive up the price. If you add in the can-sl2 module +$80, and install, even @ $50/hr, most shops are gonna charge a mimum of 2 hours for the job.

$70 +$80+$100 is $250, best case scenario cash out the door. Contary to what vonvivo stated, (who has NEVER installed an alarm or remote start in a car before) the combination of the can sl2 module + keyless entry system with our intergrated factory alarm will run a minimum of two hours of labor. So you can either listen to vonvivo who has never done this before, or you can take my advice (I've helped my local shop install a few alarms and remote start systems on cars, one of which was an Altima Coupe, and I can attest to how long each aspect of the install would take if done individually (remote start vs alarm, vs both + relay module).

Vovivo, you should listen more and talk less, especially about thing that you've only HEARD and never actuually done before!

im not going to argue with you about this, we had 7 bays full most all of the time with alarm, stereo, remote start etc... going on all day long i was in this business before you got out of high school. So relax on the holier than though speech we worked on volume business with small mark ups. We dident just do car audio we also did home audio/ video, custom woodwork/installs, computers, and were authorised repair for the majority of electronic manufactures (Alpine, JBL etc.) we made our money in other areas.

And how many push button , intellikey vehicles did you all work on???? you're killing me dude... have you ever installed an alarm on a vehicle with intellikey and push start? I;m 100% positive you haven't. Any installer worth his salt can attest to how much longer it takes to do these vehicles. Alarm/remote starts range from easy to EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. There is no magic 1 hr install universal to all cars.. but you already know this huh? Anyway, Dj, call around and get some quotes on what a few placesd in your area would charge you for a remote start install on your car. be sure to tell them its an 08 coupe, with intellikey and push button start and that you want the can sl2 module... my guess is your minmum quote will be $300... but I could be wrong.... let us know!

I can attest that what rjdmmfl1 is saying is true becasue I went thru this very thing here in Detroit last October. I have friends that work at the Nissan Tech Center as techs and they directed me to about the only installer in the metro area that had any idea of how to do this work correctly. It took them over 4 hours because mine was the first one they had done and they didn't realize that it was different from the regular Altima until they got into it. They charged me thier quoted price of $250 but told me that they were going to start charging $299 because the difficultly involved in getting the system set up correctly.

Today it's 10 below with windchill in the D and I definitly feel that it has been worth the investment. Don't be lured by cheap quotes.
