hey guys!, new to this forum with a new QX4!
Just got the car from a dealer with 148k miles.
drove it off the lot, everything worked great for about a week.
This week it started acting up. First, it wouldn't start, wouldn't crank, nothing. Jumped it and it ran fine for a day.
Wouldn't start the next day, so i took the car to O'Reillys and they tested the battery and alternator and they both tested fine. Car ran fine for another day.
Then went out to start it and it wouldn't start unless you feather the throttle to keep it from dying. also white smoke comes outta tail pipe while starting and giving it gas.
Looked under hood and saw a loose vacuum hose near the throttle body, reattached it and it started fine so i figured its solved.
Just went out to start it a day later and you had to give it gas to keep it running, more white smoke. Got it running and then turned it off to see if it would restart. Now motor just cranks and doesn't even wanta run at all.
Dealer said they put a new Mass Airflow Sensor in it.
Anybody have a solution or things to try? Really frustrating and i need this car badly!
PLEASE help!

thanks guys

Just went out to try and start it and was able to get it running by giving it gas for about 15 seconds, drove up to the gas station to fill up and it started fine but rmps stayed up near 1500-1800 until i put it into gear to drive off. when i got home i tried the idle relearn deal where you unplug the brown connector (i followed all of the directions from the owners manual i found online) (not sure what year it was for though, if anyone knows the idle relearn sequence for a 2002 qx4 that'd be great). anyways, after i did the idle relearn the tmps were still at 1000 at idle at operating temp.
any ideas?

White smoke from the exhaust is usually from coolant leaking into the cylinders - it gets turned into steam. Sounds like coolant may be leaking into a cylinder overnight. When you start it in the morning after sitting, it must burn that off. Pretty serious engine problem, if that is the problem.

I hope you have a 90 day warranty or something similar from the dealer where you bought it- I would get the truck back to them asap and find out what is wrong. No point in chasing the other issues till you get the white smoke problem solved.

Hey everyone, FINALLY FOUND THE SOLUTION TO EVERYONE'S ISSUE ABOUT MYSTERIOUS ELECTRICAL SHORTAGES, BATTERY CONSTANTLY DRAINING CAUSING POWER TO CUT, BULBS BURNING ETC. I own a 2004 Infiniti QX4 and within the last couple of years (2010-2014) I have been replaced my battery 3 times and changed bulbs in lights with frequent irregularity. No one has been able to diagnose what the problem was - just theories which cost me $1000's of dollars. I searched the net for solutions to this problem when I realized many of us owners had the same issue. I tried to look back at my truck's history when I recalled having an issue with my music suddenly turning up high without warning - that was the beginning. Well after I researched electrical shortage and radio, I stumbled upon a thread of infiniti owners who finally figured out the electrical shortage is directly related to the Bse 6-pack cd changer/radio. If you don't turn off your radio before you turn off your ignition, the Bose radio keeps running and draining the power. Eventually after many on and off ignition attempts, the battery drains. Infiniti is aware of this problem but has not gone public about it. I'm headed there tomorrow to bring this attention to them along with printed copies of this thread that explains the issue - everyone's who's fixed their radio or unplugged the radio fuse does not have electrical shortages/battery drains. here's the article. Cross my fingers this helps all of us - http://forums.automotive.com/70/1055450 ... page4.html
