The oil pump is nothing more than a couple of gears with teeth that mesh into each other, they cannot fail from sitting over time.
More likely the oil pump has lost its prime. There was an interesting thread I read over on twinturbo.net that involved adapting pipe fittings to screw into the oil filter. Then a short section of clear tubing was attached before attaching that tube to a vacuum cleaner. With someone turning the engine over, with the fuel pump and CAS unplugged. Turn vacuum on and watch for oil in the clear tube.
That will help draw oil up from the oil pan into the oil pump.
**With all that being said! The stock oil pressure sender unit is notorious for getting clogged up (has a very tiny hole on the end) and giving a zero oil pressure reading at idle. You should connect a mechanical oil pressure gauge temporarily to make sure you don't actually have oil pressure.
