I posted this in the tech forum but nobody is responding so i figured id try here... I have a sohc ka24e 89 240sx. I was driving on the highway and went to shift into 4th and missed aparently...there was bad grinding which is normal when u miss a gear but there was also a loud pop and my engine stalled and wont come back on. The car is cranking but wont turn over. I have power because dome light and all works. Replaced the ignition coil and still nothing...checked distributor rotor and everything looks fine. Any ideas?

ok update time. New ignition coil put on yesterday, pulled the spark plugs and they were more than shot so replaced them, checked to see if i am getting fuel and i am, plugs are sparking, checked all fuses and they all seem fine except two...fuel pump and engine cont. i touched these two with the circuit tester and got nothing but replaced the fuses and still got nothing so im wondering if the car has to be on or cranking for them to be in use? Help please

on the 240 when you take the cover off of the fuse box, underneath the cover is a map of the fuses, or there should be, and it should tell you in a column whether the engine needs to be on for that fuse to be in use. but thats a hard one. did you try replacing the plug wires? if not you should try that. And theres a black box that the wire from the dist gos to, it might have a red sleeve at the end. Check any problems witht that. and check the battery, it takes less power to have the lights on in the car than it does to start the car.

Was the pop from the exhaust, or under the hood? Did you mis-shift from 3rd into 2nd?(going to 4th) it's a little unclear exactly what you did before it stalled out.

You aren't leaking any fluids? Oil level is OK?

Oh and have someone turn the car to 'run' while checking those fuses...

You can check them visually BTW. It's unlikely those would be blown anyways.

when you turn the key to run, do you hear your fuel pump in the trunk?checked the relays?starter ok?because a similar thing happened to me and i had to replace all that and an ecu.

if you have busted fuses, check the hidden, always troublesome ecu fuse. if this is electrical, the pop would be a massive short caused by something like a worn starter cable or the like, which would pop lotsa fuses. also, when u missed, did you overrev the engine? Do a compression check to see if you might have blown something...
