Hey guys,

This is my first post, but I really need help here. I recently went to do an oil change on my 92 maxima se. I took it to a lube shop about 4 months ago during the winter and had them to a change. When I went to put the cup on the oil filter and loosen it, the entire things sheared off from the base. Long story short I talked to the manager at the lube shop and he was going to take care of it and just get the piece that remained off. So I ended up having to pay 200 bucks to have it towed 40 miles to the place so they could do the work. Well they aren't able to get this piece off because it's only the thin portion of the oil filter that screws onto the adapter. My question is the oil filter adapter where it screws on a separate piece. In other words, can they replace the adapter portion or is the oil filter attached directly to the block on these cars. I really need help, I can't afford a new engine and I am unsure if the lube place will cover their mistake.

Thanks in advance

tell the manager at the lube place, that you want the number to corporate and his full name. Either he will step and fix their mistake or speak to your lawyer. If you have to call corporate tell them that you want to be reimbursed for the tow job

The adaptor the filter screws on to is itself attached to the engine block. That can be seperately replaced, but it's very tight down there. This sux, they should never have tightened it so much. Hand tight is always sufficient.

Remember, squeeky wheel gets the grease! Become a squeeking wheel and make some noise at their main office. Worse case is you get to vent. Best case is you get reimbursed for some if not all your towing expenses, plus repairs.

Good luck

Good luck with the oil change place. One time a place like that twistedoff my drain plugs and I had to have a new oil pan. I got no $ outof the **%*%, they just run u to death with excuses and you wonthave time to complain enough.

I started using Mobil 1 synthetic after that to cut the frequency of myoil changes in half. Now I do all my changes myself.

You might check your drain plugs to see if they are on too tight as well. They might have stripped them out too.

You should be putting on a little collapsable copper washer on your plugswhen the plug is screwed back in.

Always check your oil filter to be sure it is not bent or the rubber O ringis damaged before screwing it on the oil filter base. I had a new one leakon me one time (ford)
