I have already searched and searched and because i search so much I have close to no posts at all. Heres my situation, about a year ago I bought a 95 240sx with a blown engine off here and finally about a month ago was finally able to get it to run. I knew i would have to change the brakes so thats what i did. I changed all the pads (I have all disc brakes) and turned the rotors. I then took if for a test drive about about 5 mins into it, I noticed i wasnt coasting very far and it was taking much more gas to keep the car moving. By the time I got home they were smoking like crazy. I then rebuilt all of the calipers and lubed the pins that slide the caliper on and off the rotor and made sure they were working well. I then took it out for another test drive and about 5 min later the same thing started to happen again. So I went oh here to figure out what the problem could be and I guess it could be a bad vacum line from the brake booster. but my question is how do I check the brake booster and master cylinder? What do i look for when inspecting the lines? Could a slight crack in one of the hard lines from the master cylinder do this? What else could this be from, am I missing anything? I really want to get this car up and running. Thank you for anything and everything.

Did you align the rear caliper piston holes with the ones on the brake pad, and did you screw the piston back in or press it in?

Also, where is the smoke comming from? Front rear? all of them?

Hey, thanks for the responce. When putting the pads in I just slide them in the metal slot things and it seemed like that is where they are supposed to go.

I had the rears rebuilt by glendale which by the looks of them looked like they did a great job but i rebuilt the fronts and i pushed them back in.

And the smoke was coming mainly from the rear tires but still good amount from the fronts as well.

Thanks

Check to make sure your ebrake is not slightly engaged i'm not much of a brake guy but that's what poped into my head.

Put the car up on jackstands, you should be able to turn the wheels fairly easily at rest (do not put on the e-brake)...

If you cannot, something is grabbing (which it sounds like it is). BUt it would be unrelated to the vacuum lines, etc it's somnething physical (like a stuck e-brake cable, etc)

If this is OK, start the car and try to turn each tire. If it doesn't turn easily now, it may be the vacuum booster causing an issue (I would heavily doubt it).

Also, are the rotors extremely hot after driving? The small nubs on the rear (INNER!)pad should line up and fit into the dimples in the rear caliper piston. If not, there's a problem.

I assume the pedal would be hard, etc on the car, not soft?

My booster rod was jacked. Thanks for everything though.
