please help me i need info

ok so i have been looking for a while and finally bought a car. it is a 1995 240 sx with no title. bought with the intention of using for parts. i got it from someone who apparently has connections with a impound/salvage yard and saved it from being crushed. it sat in the rain for about a year. thats what i was told anyway.

to be honest i have no idea what i have stumbled apon. it tracks straight and is very very fast. yes, i drove it home. it idles kinda rough and the clutch slips a little, ignition switch broken (bridge starter to crank) ,but overall it is great. i would love it if someone here can tell me just what i have. here is a quick list of what details i have discovered so far. any help is greatly appreciated.

no particular order:

car shows 93k miles.

body is fair minus front driverside quater panel and un-attached front bumper with no bumper supports.

sr20 motor

hks hipower muffler with about a 5 inch tip. kinda beat uplarge (think like 2.5-3 inches) custom exaust. no cat

hdi intercooler about 3.5 inches thick, 26 wide, 11 high. 3 inch inlet great condition

smallish looking (but loud) garrett turbo. has wastegate attached (functional?)

additional wastegate on the intercooler piping. (functional?)

2 3/4 inch assorted injen, hybrid power, and some generic hose clamp looking intake and intercooler piping

offbrand cone filter

seems to have a lsd

tokico coilovers. car sits low but rides kinda soft.

z32 16 inch stock 5 lug wheels. no adapters, wheels and brakes are the same lug pattern

the interior is trashed and i really had no intention of driving this car but is there any way to salvage title it? its fine if it has to sit for parts or be a off road toy, just curious.

Just hope it wasn't stolen. If not, you should be able to get a title from the MVA.

Oh, and that thing that is on the I/C piping is a BOV.

well it might be stolen, but it has more of a junkyard vibe. got it pretty cheap. pretty sketchy. whatever. would it be practical to get a legit car and swap all the parts or better to investigate this ones background?

It all depends. If I were you, I would try to figure out if it was stolen or not and try to get a title. If you do find out that it was stolen, then just swap the parts over. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it.

Umm the fact that igntion switch is broken and the list of mods on that car, i'd say stolen. Why would anyone junk a 240 with a SR in it and all those mods.

Well, then you can pretty much bet it's stolen If you have a shell, I would swap the SR over to that and get rid of any other evidence

oh and i have a key to switch the car on. its not that broken... steering collum is intact. pristine even. there is just no contact in the fully forward start position

Run the V.I.N. through carfax and that should tell you.

according to the guy that you bought it from it was in a police impound yard. i had called about it because i saw it on craigslist. i was actually going to go look at it this weekend but i guess its too late now.

ok so carfax says its had 4 owners in ga and florida...one was a lease. small accident in 96repoed oncethe last report was in jan 07, registration renewed.

no mention of theft

what would lead to a police impound?

Where does this put me in the paperwork department?

street racing will lead to an impound, but idk the exact story on that car. best bet would be to go to the DMV and ask them what you can do about it. it might be possible to get in contact with the last owner and get the title from them but because it was impounded i doubt they will hand it over.

Drug possession, street racing, ect.

The best thing to do would be to go to your local DMV and tell them your story and they will tell you what you need to do and what paper work you need to file. Good Luck

carfax gave me a title number for the last owner but there is no other info. can the local dmv use this along with the vin to get me straight?

they should be able to help you out or point you in the right direction on what to do. Just hope and pray that your like me and when you go to the DVM that you know the person working at the window or that they are a younger chick and flirt with them. I had bought a car from florida and had issues with the title because the guy i bought the car from never got the car registered in his name but with a little flirting and general bs i was able to walk out with a title in my name.

well it has a S14 sr20det in it and i havent seen the interior but i would say about 3k to 4k if it had a title but with no title no more than 2k. the price was good and if you cant get a title then buy a 240 shell and swap everything over. or you can part it out if you dont want to go through all that work and if you part it out let me know cause i would take that motor and trans off your hands.
