tie rod ends are easy, take off your front wheel. if you have someone turn the wheel back and forth you will see a rod that moves back and forth which is connected to the axel by a knuckle/ball joint. this is the tire rod end. The tie rod controls the back and forth movement of the wheel when you are steering.

for example look at the 2nd pic on the page you linked us to. you see that small bar thats horizontal in the picture and has a boot on it where it connects to the power steering stuff? that metal rod is your tie rod. if you follow that out towards the wheel the joint is the tie rod end (cut off in the pic).

the second picture down on that page you listed has the tie rods ends on it. the tie rod eds (inner and outer) start under the boot and connect to the spindle/hub assembly. there is a shaft with a box/ball joint on one end (under boot) and then there is the outer tie rod end which is a ball joint fitting that connects the inne rod to the spindle.

you can only see part of the outer tie rod there in that pic, but just everything that is attached to that part (a little rubber bushing and a stud that goes up through the knuckle) is that peice.

this may be a newbie question, but is there a big difference with upgrading the tie rods and ends?

The ends would be the outer tie rods (look to pic).

The complete tie rod as a whole would be the inner and outer.
