Well since no one replied and my idiotic genius self figured out what happened it was my distributor timing.
But since this topic comes up often and ive never seen a definitive answer ill actually post the possibilities of what it could be and what i understand to be the causes of this along with not being able to rev past a certain point
First off check your distributor timing- easy to mess up free to check
if moving your distributor while the car is running does nothing then the whole distributor is most likely bad and you got a quick easy answer
Second check your MAF(Mass Airflow Sensor)- common problem will cause a rough idle keep your car from starting or limit how high your car can rev.
to check this unplug your maf while the car is running if theres no change then its bad if it dies or goes crazy on you then its working.
Third check you TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor)- another common problem and can cause your car to idle rough and stop it from revving properly
to check unplug and see if anything changes again if nothing changes then its bad
Fourth check your IACV(Inline Air Control Valve)- causes a rough idle. easiest way to check this is to mess with the idle adjusment screw and see if that does anything at all if not then its gone bad
Last check the temperature sensor that goes to the ecu and this is really only if your car wont start at all but have heard of it messing with engine performance as well. honestly if you suspect this is bad just buy another one they're under $20
Hopefully this will help guide someone in the right direction to fix their car and save some money. these are the only problems that could cause a motor to idle rough not start or not rev if its somthing else then you have much bigger problems haha
