I have a 94 j30. I would like to know how many qts goes into just simple drain and refill. I do know that you are suppose to do a pan drop and change the filter, as well as flush every 30k miles. I just want to know how many qts for a simple drain and refill. I dont know how much to add back in my transmission beacuse my bro drained the fluid and did not measure to see how much came out. Give me a rough estimate of how many qts.

Thanks guy!

Go by the dipstick, intially cold then read it again while it is hot.

Little accomplished by this method compared to a mechanical extraction replacement. Might make you fell better, but ATF is still largely contaminated.

I just did this 2 weeks ago on my own J30. The car holds a little bit over 8 quarts in the transmission, convertor included. The factory Nissanmatic D-fluid drains 2 quarts for every pan drain. I bought 10 quarts of pennzoil synthetic ATF and did 5 drain refills going through 2 quarts, running the engine for about 2-3 minutes each.

Drive the car for about 10 minutes to get the fluid warmed up..

Drain 2 quarts of fluid from the ATF pan. Refill ATF through the dipstick hole for 2 quarts and run car for 2-3 minutes shift through gears if possible..

Do this 3 more times..you should have used up 8 quarts by now..and on the last drain/refill..drain and then refill to exact fill level as required in the owners manual (lay on flat surface..let car run for a couple of minutes..check dipstick..should be in between hot/cold)

My car is not your car, so on the first drain, measure the amount of fluid your car drains from the ATF pan... replace it with the same amount precisely.

I also added 1.5 ounces of Lubegard Red and 1.5 ounces of lubegard black after driving the car for a day..There is practically no shift shock and the fluid looks great..

I did not pull the filter and pan yet..my next fluid change is going to be a full syn flush with filter replacement and pan drop and maybe a transmission cooler. At 56k, the factory fluid came out clear with pink color (nissanmatic-D tint) so I'm not going to stress it..
