Okay, so I troubleshooted my J30. Pretty sure my problem was the Radiator Fan relay.

It was missing, but in its place was a 30 amp fuse. When I re attach the fuse in the relays place the car starts, but does not turn off.

I bought a new relay for it, placed it in, but it will not start.

So, what would be the problem?

ANY HElP PLEASE!!!

So they put a fuse in place of a relay?

If the above is true then that's messed up and I would assume you have more problems down the road.

If you replaced the fuse with a relay then is should start. But I think you need to see an electrician.

30 amps is a BIG fuse. Is the relay also rated for 30 amps?

Please explain exactly what you mean by "the car starts, but does not turn off". The engine starts normally using the ignition key, keeps running, but cannot be turned OFF?

Turning the ignition switch should pull-in/activate/CLOSE various relays (wired in series and in parallel) and turning the ignition OFF should cause them to OPEN again.

It sound like in one case the relay isn't CLOSING (no start) and in the other the presence of the fuse will not permit other relays to OPEN (no OFF).

Pulling the fuse OPENS them, until you CLOSE them by starting the car again with the fuse in place.

I'd say your problem is upstream of the relay/fuse. The ignition switch maybe?

thanks,

yeah when we replaced the fuse with the relay it has no effect, car does not turn on, no power to anything. Only thing that has power is door locks and inside lights. When we take out relay and use the 30 amp like it was the car starts, everything has power, but when we turn the key to turn it off it has no effect, the car stays running.

Yeah, I am trying to find an electrician, so anyone on here with that expertise chime in!!

Thanks GerryO

Jumpering terminals 1 & 2 (see page 4), the fuse is completing load circuit, but something upstream of the relay isn't supplying control circuit power needed to close the relay.
