Long time reader, first time writer!

I've lived w/ this annoying problem for almost three years now, and I'm hoping someone has experienced it and can give me some advice. The symptoms are as follows:

Every morning I start the car('93 J30) to head for work-everything is normal. I usually don't wait for longer then 30 sec. to 1 min.

-about 2-5 minutes later I gradually accelerate from a stop or light, the car hesitates, like a loss of power.

-if I don't give it more gas, the car eventually accelerates but only after what seems like 5-10 sec. and not very smoothly.

-if I boot it, out of frustration, it will accelerate, w/ abrupt upshifts and jerky acceleration.

-all of these symptoms though, disappear about 5-10 minutes later, regardless of cruising speed or weather(sometimes extreme)

Spark plugs have been changed as well as all liquids except coolant at specified intervals. No sensors have ever been changed. Timing belt and coolant was changed at specified mileage......car now has 175k kms.

Please help!

I know there's a very common problem with the idle on these cars, during cold starts. Someone mentioned there was a TSB about this. I have a similiar condition sometimes.

BUMP

I'm hoping someone will shed some more light on this situation. I haven't started my J30 up in the cold weather yet, only the hot weather. It does it for a second, then goes right away.

Hope you find some answers!

So let me reverify. THe car only does this when its "kind of" warm. Not cold, but not fully warmed up either???

Im not really sure where to start so to help narrow it down answer that first

I know it sounds weird, but imagine getting to the first stop sign or traffic light after you've driven out of your driveway in the morning and then.......it feels likeyou're running out of fuel. So you feather the gas pedal for a few minutes and by the time you get on the freeway no more problem. This has gotten progressively worse, but it has never stalled on me. The symptoms just last a little longer and happen more often.

My guess is that either the coolant temp sensor is kind of screwed up (unlikely), or the MAF is messed up.. Id try seeing if you can get a new MAF, the J30 should use the same one as the 300ZX

have you done anything like a throttle body cleaning????

Just a bottle of Bk44 cleaner which made it feel peppier, but didn't solve my problem, although my gas gauge worked well for a while again instead of dropping to empty when it gets down to 1/2 a tank.

Thanks for your help elwesso. I'm still hoping someone responds with absolute certainty, before I start swapping parts...as you know they're not cheap. My mechanic won't change anything if the check engine light doesn't flash.

I understand, however i dont think anyone can respond with certainty on these sort of iffy things... Personally what I would do is see if anyone here has an extra MAF, or if you could meet up with someone and you could put their MAF on the car and see if it does anything...

BTW... im going to merge this thread with the one in the online mechanic. ok???

Thanks for the offer Elisha, but driving to Halifax from Montreal is a bit of a stretch. Like I said to elwesso, I'll keep you posted on how things workout.
