April of last year I got a 84 720 4x4 with a 2.4l. Right away the timing chain tensioner went so I got a timing chain kit from rockauto.com for 120$ and now my timing chain tensioner went again! I took off the valve cover and know what one I need to replace I just need to know what will be the best one to get is. I thought I got one of the best timing chain kits on the market(I forget the brand name) but apparently they break. So what should I get to replace the tensioner? and what do you guys think would cause it to fail?

PS I just installed a weber carb, I don't burn a drop of oil, my oil pressure seems a little low and I think one of my coils isn't working correctly.

Thanks for always helping me guys.

I just had an idea... if I have low oil pressure and my tensioner is powered by oil pressure then if it doesn't push against the chain hard enough it might rattle around causing it the eventually get weak and break. What do you guys think?

oh yeah when my timing chain tensioner first broke I used 10w30 quaker state oil and I currently use 5w30 royal purple oil. So I don't think the type of oil really matters here. Also when my first one broke I used napa oil filter and I currently have a fram oil filter.

I just realized that it's not the tensioner it's the guide that's broken. Sorry for the wrong information.

yeah tensioners usually don't mess up that often.

I just ordered a new oil pump and guide. Hopefully it doesn't break so soon again.

Does Nissan still have them laying around? I know a lot of these parts have started to fade away, but if you can source and OEM one, it'll last until you're ready to part with the truck. Also, in my experience with these old single cams, 10W-40 with added Zinc kept everything pumping regularly.
