Hey everyone, been quite a while since i have been on this forum, I joined the navy, been in about a year now, got stationed on Guam and finally got around to having my car shipped out here. Yesterday i just got back from a deployment and was excited to hear my car had arrived. I also found out im being sent right back out in about 2 weeks anyway...But i really thought it would be awesome to be cruisin around in my 240 for a while.

The car was dropped at the shipping place by a family member ann they drove it about 2 hours away from my home without any problems, I'm guessing maybe on the 1 1/2 month trip on a boat over here maybe something came lose that im not finding. Anyway heres the specs and problems, any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated.

1991 hatchback sr20det engine swap pretty much stock, fmic, 3 inch exhaust

Car will start, but wont rev over about 3k rpm, stays on for about 1 minute then dies out unless i constantly give it gas when it starts to bog down. I spent all day screwing around with it in the hot a** guam sun, and ended up having to leave it at the shipping place overnight. Also it wouldnt start without a jump every time so i got a new battery (which deosnt fit and i have to return and get another one later) but after i hooked the cables up to it it would start and do the same thing as before, i tried disconnecting the negative terminal to see if its the alternator after that but it does the same thing dying after about a minute but the battery is still charged so im pretty sure its not that.

Its been along couple months and long day on top of that, so please dont flame me if its somthing stupid, i havn't worked on a car in over a year. Again thanks in advance for any help.

I think its a bad MAF, usually if it wont rev above 3k then thats usually the problem.

I was kind of thinking that, is there anyway to test if thats the problem? I had another idea which I need to check, I have an apexi safc hooked up and i think maybe the wires that are hooked up to the air flow sensor wires maybe one came off or somehting, I totally forgot to check, i was running around like a chicken with its head cut off taking care of business and all since i havent been home in a while, on top of I havnt seen this car in a year, and then having to stop working on it due to the place closing lol. Hopefully I can just get a fresh start tommorow and remember how to work on this thing.

Sounds like to MAF to me too. The ECU is in safe mode. Try unplugging the maf while it's running and see if anything changes.

Also, it could be the SAFC. Check your maf settings. I have to have mine set to 1 in and 9 out. I have no idea why, but it works.

Just to join in, it sounds exactly like Mar or safc. Also pop open afc and make sure the harness is still plugged in internally

Not sure if this really helps but on the 18's I used to maintain, corrosion at sea was the biggest thing we had to maintain. That salt air gets into everything. Every connector plug and ground was cleaned and greased several times a week. Might want to just go through and brush up and tighten all your grounds and squirt a little lithium grease in all the plugs.

This is probably really obvious, but did the car get drove any in the year of your deployment? Gas goes bad after a month or two of sitting.
