ok heres the deal.

trying to go ka-t. my stock motor had bad compression and i didnt feel like rebuilding since other KAs are so cheap.

got one that was supposedly from a 97 and with low miles.

changed clutch, put it in.

pretty much have full turbo kit pieced together except for manifold and downpipe. was gonna order boost designs but not so sure anymore.

so ive been driving it around basically stock with no problems for a little while.

got defi vsd concept. wired it in (2 wires off the ecu, powered it off the stereo harness).

next time i started it, it had trouble starting, like 9-10 cranks. when it started it kindof bubbled up to proper idle speed, ran a little rough, then smoothed out, drove fine. didnt think anything of it. one of thoes, oh, that was wierd, things.

drove it around for like 3 or 4 days, car was having trouble starting again, but always ran fine after a little bit.

at this point, nismo freak suggests that maybe my FPR has gone bad.

took the front brakes off, car sat on jackstands for 3 days. while it was on jackstands i started working on moving the harness from the fender well to the engine bay, because i somtimes rub my wheels on it and dont want this happening. got about halfway through, hooked the battery back up, started the car to make sure it still worked. yep still runs the same with the slow starting.

got z32 brakes, put thoes on, bled them, drove the car around. same thing. now that i had brakes again, started driving the car again.

today, drove it over to my friends house, to home depot for a tool, back to his house, go get some food, etc etc. so i mean i started it a bunch today and it was doing the same thing, but would always drive fine immediatley after.

parked it for like 5 hours while helping with his car. when i was ready to go home, car started up extra slow, and it was missing. pulling plugs revealed that it was cylinder 3. drove it home that way on three cylinders. since we live close together, wasnt very much of a drive. i noticed that the car had visible white smoke comming out the back in my mirrors. let the car sit agian for like 2 hours in the driveway, and just went out to start it again, does the same thing. please help, this is my daily, and im screwed if i cant get it working agian.

heres my plan of attack for tomorrow

#1. unplug defi vsd unit, since that seems to be where everything went downhill. start car, see if anything happens.

#2. switch spark plugs between cyl 2 and 3 to see if its the plugs (unlikley)

#3. same thing, switch wires.

#4. pull the fuel rail. switch the fuel pressure regulator with an sr20 one, and switch 2nd and 3rd fuel injectors to see if maybe an injector died.

#5. re check the connections on the wiring harness stuff that i moved, wrap everything with electrical tape to make sure nothing is shorting

after that im out of ideas. please, any advice for what to do in this situation would be greatly appriciated.

#4 , if you successfully pull the injectors without damaging them I will be truly suprised. But I think your onto something with that idea. I have a feeling #3 injector is leaking, look at all 4 plugs and compare them. You will probably find that one is a bit wet. Before you do anything unplug the connector to # 3 injector and fire it up, see if the start problem still exists. This will help cut some of that injectors fuel dump,if its leaking it wont cut it all but you may have more of a "normal start up.

unplugged the injector and it started right up, no excessive cranking. im gonna let it sit for a few hours and see if i can duplicate the results.

pulled 3rd injector and the bottom o ring was all ripped up. switched it out and now it runs like it did before. runs good but still has trouble starting. but at least i can drive it now and no smoke. any ideas on the bad starting?

does it crank slow? if so you may have a weak battery, If it cranks at normal speed but just takes a long time to start could just be fouled plugs.
