Please Help Emerg. over heating Question

I have a 1990 240 and i need to change the thermostat i bought one and i cant find where it goes both hoses off the radiator go straight to the block im used to them running into a half golf ball shaped unit with the thermo in it please help where does this thing go! pictures would help my dumb *** thanks
