I was installing an autometer gauge today. I hooked up the ground to a bolt.the power wire I did not hook up

I did not have to time to hook it because I had to go to work.First the clock has reset to 1pm? but the battery wasn't disconnected. pretty soon I realize it won't remember now after the car is shut off! the stereo also won't work!!!

after leaving work when its dark I realize the dome light is also no longer working. the "door ajar" light is also faintly on and glows stronger then dims while I drive?!Now the clock isn't working at all.

can anyone help me out??? I've checked all the fuses under the dash and under the hood and they are all fine.I disconnected the battery tonite and I'll try to fix it in the morning but I don't even know where to start.I removed the wire that was grounded to a bolt to see if that would help but no luck.

please help me!!!

where did you run the ground wire (inside the door jam) that might explain the door ajar light also which bolt did you use. sounds like you got to messing around with some wires in a parallel circuit that controls the radio, dome light and clock. your best bet is too get a wiring diagram and see if these componets are in the same circuit and see if you have a short, open, or loose connection. I know you didn't mess with hooking up the power but maybe when you where looking for a good wire to splice into you thouched a damaged wire to ground and now that wire is shorted. also if your in a parallel circuit you may have more than these three componets in the circuit that still work and therefore you have not completely grounded the circuit so you may not blow the fuse that controls these componets. I could go own and own and own but this is just my first assumption.

I had the same symptoms before. It happened after i was workin with the yellow wire in the stereo (which holds power even after the key is out) . I ended up grounding this wire and it blew a fuse under the dash. It was for the dome light or something ( i forget what it's called, but iwouldn't have guessed it) Go and pull out every fuse to see if it is burned.

fuse under the dash? Is that the driver side or passenger side?

Luke was 100% correct.

it was the fuse that was blown.

on the drivers side kick panel.

might be handy to carry extra fuses in the future

My 91 has those exact same problems, except my 'room' fuse is good. Any ideas?

I thought I heard somewhere that a fuse could be bad and you cant tell by just looking at it, the element in it might not be broken or something

You can almost always tell if the fuse is out by looking. It's why they make them that way. 99% of the time people mess something up in a stereo installation in almost ALL japanese cars, they blow that dome light fuse. No idea why it affects everything. Absolutely no freakin clue. I keep a box of 10 amp fuses around for that express purpose.........

Ya.. I'm thinking it might be the alarm too.. It's not hooked up.

David.
