I think the keyless brain is bad. The alarm remote stopped working and on the same day the drivers and passenger windows keep rolling down when ever they feel like it. I looked for a fuse for the security system and I can't find one. Is the keyless brain located in one of the doors? What should I do? I can live with out the factory alarm.

2002 Pathfinder

Thanks....

This could be one of two things, a bad keyfob or a bad SECU (smart entrance control unit). My first recommendation would be to try using a different keyfob. If the problem persists after trying a new keyfob then you will likely need to replace your SECU (smart entrance control unit). This unit controls all door locking/unlocking as well as the window-down function for the driver and passenger windows.

What it sounds like is happening is the SECU keeps receiving an extended lock signal from the keyfob (or driver/passenger door lock cylinders) and that is causing the windows to go down.

Awesome thank you........

I took the battery out of the keyfob and the gremlin hasn't returned in the last 4 hours. Didn't know that the keyfob could make the driver/passenger windows roll down. Is there a fuse for the SECU or is there away to bypass it just incase the gremlin comes back?

Regards,Eric

Yeah, it's a feature most people don't know about. If you hold the lock button on the keyfob or if you hold the key in the lock position in the door key cylinder it will put the two front windows down. Unfortunately you can't put the windows up this way.

There isn't really a way to bypass the SECU since it controls almost every human-interface function of the vehicle (exterior lights, interior lights, door locks, etc.). If you were to disable the SECU, most of the vehicle would become unusable. If you really want to disable the entire SECU then you have to pull out the fusible link in the fusebox in the engine bay.

Some clarification on this one: You can roll the windows down using the keyfob or by putting your key in the door lock and holding it in the unlock position, as you said. However, you CAN also roll your windows back up with the key in the door lock, by turning and holding it in the lock position. The only thing you can't do is roll the windows up with the keyfob. Too bad for that though. That would have been a really nice feature. Most new cars have this feature now.Two friends of mine, one with a Lexus, and another with an Acura TL didn't know about the remote being able to open the windows. They were amazed when I showed them. They didn't bother reading their user manuals I guess.BTW, my '06 Altima also has this feature.

Yeah I completely messed that up.

When I got my first car (98 Range Rover HSE) I thought this was one of the coolest features and I thought it was way ahead of its time. I also thought that the electric headrests were absolutely amazing.

For some reason it doesn't work on my QX4 at all. Holding the button won't work and same goes with key.
