You can search. Its a debate that's lasted for years and its all personal preference.

KA24DE - slower, cheaper, but add the "T" and it balances out to the SR20DET.

Iron Block vs Aluminum block, Build to turbo vs already a turbo. to much to decied. if you want turn key and ton of aftermarket go SR, if you want to build it yousef put the time and $ and do it right go for the KA. Besides there are damn near 10 diff engines you can put into it, and thats just the ones nissan produces....

whos to honestly say you could build an engine out of titanium and it will eventualy break down. It all depends on your driving style maintence and the quality of the parts that are put into the engine. thats why im a fan of building up the ka24de. Its all in the work you put into them.

Some one should post the 100k+ links to threads about this debate. You obviously have no idea about what your getting into so just keep your ka.

Wow.. what happened to this forum?.. First off, judging from your post you a newbie to the forum.. so Welcome to the Vert forum. Post pics for your vert (one of our unsung rules). As far as your question, as you've guessed many people have some er "strong" opinions about this. My opinion is based off the vert platform. I've had my Vert for some time and when the KA died I had to make the decision. Now granted the KA served me for about 100K miles before giving up. My quest was two fold. 1) I wanted to convert to 5 speed 2) I wanted more power on a budget. At the time the SR was really the only answer. No one was really making "go fast" parts for the KA (hell they were dubbed the Boat Anchor. My decision was made that the SR w/transmission, shipped (with the Silvia conversion) was $2900. The engine was low mileage (50 kilometers on donor car), place I bought it from also threw in the manual driveshaft. The givens were UNcut harness, side mount intercooler, ECU. These are all things to consider if you plan on Boosting the KA. You have to get ECU programmed, Upgrade internals, Upgrade the fuel system, Buy the turbo, Buy the intercooler. I've had my SR in and running for about 2 years and love it. I don't drive it too hard, mostly daily driven. I get about 24 mpg local driving (about what I was getting with stock KA). It is a hell of a lot of fun though. I hope that helps answer your question some. Do some research. Price what it would cost to build a "Proper KA" for boosting and all the add-ons. Most SR will handle a good deal of power in stock form (All I did was increase boost to 10.5 psi and am at 215hp to the wheels). My next step is to up to a T28 (as mine was a stock redtop w/t25). That will probably cost me about $3000 to do it right (other items to be upgraded at same time). Again, welcome to the vert forums.
