Ok, maybe I am over-reacting, but I really love my car and I am really looking for help and advice from you guys.

I hit a curb hard last week, and the left-front wheel was damaged, possibly the tire too, therefore causing a noticable rattling when I drive. Got a quote from two dealerships for a new replacement but the price is just too high. I know a lot of people put on after-market wheels/rims therefore have no use for their stock ones. Anyone or anyone who knows anyone looking to get rid of their stock wheel in the Los Angeles area? I am willing to purchase one from someone. I have a G35 Sedan with the Sport-tuned Suspension Package, so the wheel is 5-spoke, 18"x7.5" aluminum-alloy.

I want to get my G35 back to the way it was ASAP. Any advice or help are appreciated. Thanks!!

When you hit curbs [at any speed] usually lots more than the tire and wheel is damaged especially if you hear noises from suspension. Wheel bearings, suspension arms bent, aligments.........

What insurance is for to pay for your mistakes.

Really depends on how much you value your cars safety and performance.

Why would hitting a curb at speed necessarily result in an inexpensive repair?

More than just the wheel is damaged, I would bet.

But I went to the dealership and a bodyshop already, both of their assessment was that the wheel was damaged. Are you suggesting that they are not trustworthy?

Thanks.

What Dennis and Brian are saying is that there's likely MORE than just the wheel damaged.

Why wouldn't you simply notify your insurance company? Then it can be fixed properly without the constraints of your budget.

Alternatively, there are ALWAYS takeoff wheels for sale on ebay and in our Classified section - Don't hold out for "just one wheel", as you'll be waiting a while.

Buy a set, keep the three as spares in case you decide to whack another defenseless curb.

Regardless of your decision, make sure you get a full alignment afterwards - I'd bet there is additional damage, so simply replacing the wheel is just a start.

BTW, Welcome aboard Homer!!!

I would have the undercarriage and subframe measured by a laser equipped frame shop. Very unlikely nothing else was bent.

As for the wheel, one OEM wheel (look for a take off form Joe) will be a lot less expensive than four new ones that meet OEM qulaity. However, if you want to upgrade, now's your chance.

Your body shop should be able to source you a used/reconditioned wheel for cheaper than stock.

Did you post this in the correct thread? It doesn't make sense with this thread...

Did the same thing a year ago to my 2000 Jetta VR6. Set me back $3500 for two new wheels, tires, and assorted suspension and drive parts in Toronto, Canada.

Car is good now -- the job was done quickly and well -- no lingering after-effects regarding braking or handling.

BTW, I understand that G35 (2006 M6) wheels would have cost a lot more, $2300 vs $865 each.
