So we have a 78 280Z. When in neutral she seems to rev up just fine. Small hesitation but things crazy. Once you drive her and get her under load that's where things go south. When she gets up to 2800-3000 RPM she goes flat with no power.

We changed the plugs, wires, cap and router, PCV and fuel filter your regular tune up. Also checked the air flow meter and that was bad so that was replaced. I also checked the fuel pressure and that is spot on as well and stays at proper pressure when revving it up.

Has someone out there experienced this before?

Thank you in advance for your help everyone!

Is it only when cold, or even at operating temp?

Have the valves been adjusted lately?

RPM related issues on these usually indicates an AFM issue. I have also seen fuel pumps fail as the rpm's climb, vac drops and fuel pressure rises causing an ailing pump to cut out, an inline fuel gauge can test that for you, but the pump is external and pretty easy to get it.

by chance did you find out the cause? I have the same problem.
Only thing I have not checked is the FUEL filter.... that is next.

Even if the fuel flow appears OK when revving the engine in neutral, it may not be keeping up under load. Like mentioned, connect and inline fuel pressure gauge, mounted so you can see it while driving (not in the passenger area).

Then take the car for a drive and watch to see if the pressure drops when the power falls off.

If so, you need a new fuel pump.
