whats a "numb"??

Offset determines how far in/out the wheel sits in comparison to the HUB.

The best way I can explain it is this: The inside part of the rim that mounts to the hubs location compared to the center of the rim.

The higher the offset the more tire that is pushed towards the middle of the car. The lower the offset the more the tire will stick out towards your fender.

Most tires that have big lips have a low or even a negative offset. The sedan tires are +32 I believe. The coupe is different, but I dont recall the offset.

Most people like the tires to look flush with the side of the car, and prefer an offset that puts them there.

1st gen sedan offsets are +45 for the 17 and 18 inch wheels. coupe offsets are +30 for the 18" wheels and +30 front/+33 rear for the 19" rays wheels. Read the "stickied" thread I posted about wheels/tires.

Sometimes seeing different wheels and what they are on give you an idea of how offsets work as well.

0 offset is when the hub is right down the middle of the wheel (From the J to the J).

+ offset pushes the wheel's barrel more into the wheelwell. (Pushes the face of the wheel out)

- offset pushes the wheel's barrel more out towards the fender. (Pushes the face of the wheel into the barrel).

If you have larger brakes, coilovers, etc...that needs to be taken into consideration too for disk type (brake clearance), suspension, tire size and alignment.

Looking at everything from the concept of total good wheel fitment.

Hope this helps.

So a 20x8.5 offset 25 and a 20x10 offset 40 would not fit a Brembo coupe properly because of the potential rub in the rear and the front caliper clearance?Did I get that correct?

Keep in mind that good and bad offsets for looks also have good and bad influences on handling for different road conditions. To the extreme you can think a little along the lines of a rally machine versus a machine for straight line drag type of performance. One is good for lots of cornering, another for high speed straight line travel.

Sorry, fixed link.

I can't say for sure, but I'd think those sizes/offsets would work. Though the tire size will play a part in clearance.
