Now, I don't mean Metallica playing it at a concert, I mean a band you are in playing it.
Anyone ever done it?
I've been playing that song on drums since I was in High School, and have always wanted to play it, but never found anyone willing to play it or learn it...hell, it's a long friggan song, anyway.
So, back in February, I went to a session (open mic) night at my friends bar. I met a couple people that were into Metallica and they wanted to play Enter Sandman. The bass player was a girl that I have seen play a lot of blues and jazz. I never would have imagined she could whip the hell out of Sandman.
After playing Sandman that night, she had requested to the bar owner to play Master of Puppets, and asked me if I would play the drums. HELLS YEAH! The two guitarists I played Sandman with were pretty good, but I had no idea how good they were till last night. I was blown away by their talent. The guy doing the solos had it down perfect for both of them...wow!
The guitars aren't the most difficult parts to play in Metallica's catalogue of music, but it's definately not easy, and these guys, and the girl, pulled it off without even breaking a sweat. I was so stoked, guys.
Oh, and I was the one singing too...lol
I have seen Metallica live 5 times, and only once, in July 2003, have I seen them do the full version of the song. Now I think I might now why...he he.
A friend of mine took some pics and a short video, so if I can get them, I'll try to get them up.
