play on transmission

I had to replace my cltuch on the car, so as needed you would need to drop out the transmission, but I'm not sure if there's suppose to be some play on the input shaft. So is there suppose to be any play on it? It's a 1995 240SX SE with about roughly 120,000 miles.

how much play are we talking about.. A little is acceptable. enough to use it as a slide hammer to pop the front cover off is a problem.
