I have a 2011 Titan Pro4x and wish those wheels to be a different color. Being how I am poor and would rather spend the money on the motor rebuild for the Skyline, I was thinking of alternate solutions. Plastidip being one of them.

Question is: how "durable" is this solution? I see people online who have done this and say "OMG the bestessss evar!", but how true is this? Anyone here have any personal experience with this product, especially on wheels? I do some moderate off roading, and by this I mean going down a trail or dirt path to the pond to fish or shoot the gun. Also, if you must reapply, do you have to pull the old stuff completely off and start all over? Just trying to get some info here...

I have a friend than plastidipped all four wheels on his car. It lasts at least a year but he replaced the tires on the car so it would have lasted longer? When you mount and dismount tires the metal bar used to remove the tire cuts thought the plastidip paint. He has not repainted the wheels yet so I have no idea whats involved in reapplying the paint.

Plastidip is pretty durable until it tears. Especially on wheels, after it tears you have to do it over. Other than being able to return to factory easier, I never understood the huge thing about plasti-dipping wheels. If you go with good spray paint and prep the wheel properly you'll have a more durable result with a nicer finish.

So the Plastidip can basically just be peeled off when you don't want it anymore? It doesn't ruin anything when you take it off?
Also what about if you plastidip your front bumper or grill or something, same thing taking it off?
Thanks

Yup. It just kinda peels off like a sticker almost. Leaves nothing behind on any non-porous surface, or most that you'd encounter in a normal life.

Yeah, which was the part about "durability". If it starts peeling, its basically just coming off. I was more interested in if you take it to the car wash, will it come out partially painted. I have read people have pressure washed them just fine, but I am just curious if anyone here was pleased.

I would consider spray paint, however, if you get overspray, unlike plastidip, spray paint is harder to get off. I was just curious mostly.

It will withstand some pressure washing, but as soon as that sucker tears its over. Overspray isn't too hard to deal with on wheels, sure its more work, but the end result is also better. Here's a pretty neat idea for masking off tires with a deck of cards from the dollar store:

And even with plasti-dip, you're going to want to mask it off. If the overspray is thick enough, when you peel it, it will peel off the plasti-dip on your wheels too.

Sweet, thanks for the info. I think I will at least try the plastidip, if it peels, oh well! Thanks Krash.

One of the Altima Coupe guys removed the Plastidip from his wheels recently; has a thread about it here with a picture of it being peeled off. It seems to come off pretty easily and not leave anything behind from his experience.

^Yeah, I was going to say search Plastidip with subheading Altima Coupe and you will find lots of threads about it. Some good, some bad, some where a member masked off his Altima Coupe and Plastidipped in such a way to make it look like a skunk, you get the idea.

I for one think it belongs on the handles of tools as it was originally intended, but thats just me.

Altima Coupe owners love nasti-dip. Quite unfortunate.

Just a quick solution to a minor issue. Instead of spending thousands of bucks on wheels, I would rather spend that much on the internals on the motor for the Skyline. If it peels, well I tried. If not, got away with a new look for cheap.

I will post pics of before and after.

I get it. From what Ive seen on the Altima Coupe forum it holds up well on wheels, but is a brake dust magnet. I remember one dude would actually spray/strip them every couple of months rather than try to clean them.

Index cards work well if you don't want to use playing cards. On my second set of wheels I wanted something different. Still had some tread left so powdercoating wasn't an option. The finish turned out good but I will probably just powdercoat them when the old tires are done. I'm having a feeling that maintenance on these will be a pain.
