Do you guys just take this off? Mine is half way corroded on the oil filter side and is hanging down. Anyone ever thought of mabye making an streamlined aluminum replacement?

Most people take it off, but it is supposed to keep the air under the car and keep it away from the turbulence that can be caused by the motor and the subframe.

Kinda like a performance mod.

Also, the Mines Skyline and the Special edition R34 came with these but they were made of Carbon Fiber. OOOOOOOHHHH.

You might not have it as after 10 years it tends to fall off, but underneath the motor there is usually a big carboardy-plasticy thing that covers the bottom of the engine compartment.

It's called a splash guard. The idea is to keep water from splashing up on to your engine when you go through puddles. It also helps keep your engine clean. It isn't that necessary as I live in Vancouver (mmm temperate rain forest) and I haven't had any problems.

Wouldn't it keep water from your CAI....but on the other side, wouldn't it be preventing the cold air from coming in.....double edged sword....

OMG, its the friggin HUGE plastic peice RIGHT UNDER your engine. I took mine off, as well as the clutch fan the fan shroud, and all the rest of that annoying plastic **** under the hood...it makes it look sooo purty :)

I was thinking of getting another one, I'm sure mine fell off long before I even bought the car.

mine is half torn off as well. A piece would scrape when I put my winters on 15" steelies. Anyway, my only concern is salt splashing up into the engine bay (corrosion). Yes, I know its a sin driving in the slush, but its my only car, and drifting is really fun in fresh snow.

nice engine bay lip****z! Is that red wire a power wire for an amp or something? I can tell you a better place to run it (alot more descrete).
