So I plasti-dipped my grille, door handles, rear chrome piece above the license plate....and am wanting to do the four chrome bump strips, one at the bottom of each door.

I checked the FSM and it says to take masking tape and tape all the way around the strip and then use a special tool to, I guess, cut the glue allowing you to pop the clips out.

Is this how these trim pieces come off?

just spray over the whole area. the plasti dip will separate itself - just like people do the letters on the trunk. spray and peal, and it will separate itself.

Hmm, I never thought of that. I guess it shouldn't affect the paint at all. Interesting thought....I may just do that.

Hey, since we are on the subject ImStricken....I had a thought of making a plasti dip fender flare type thing. I know you are and were talking in another thread about having some kind of fender flare or wheel well moulding or something. Anyway, I wonder how it would look if you taped it off well and just did like 30 coats? Once you pull the tape away you would have a plasti-dipped fender flare type thing.

Any thoughts?

On the fender flare idea, I wanted to do that with plasti-dip but I am afraid I could not get the circular look perfect. I did use black molding in the past which looked decent but I had to remove to make repairs after an accident. Never did put back yet.

I went to Pep Boys in the past and bought some black side molding for about $19.99 per 20ft roll and attached it near the wheel well. You can use chrome molding obviously for the chrome afficandos.

I actually went back and added another set of slightly wider moulding alongside the first set for for the hell of it. Installation=Easy

If you look really close at my side mirror you see some molding attached to it.
