Ok I am getting ready to put the "new to me" Ka24e into my 240 and am preparing the car for the swap. The eninge and transmission are coming out together because i think it will be easier and I might be getting a less used transmission(still auto) for free. Well I was getting ready to disconnect the driveshaft and exhaust and ran into a few questions.....

A) What is the best way to disconnect the driveshaft from the transmission or remove it? A friend told me to unbolt it in the middle and the differential and it will just slid out?

B) I have noticed a lot of rust under my car, in odds and ends places. The most of it is covered in goo of some sort but the edges and supports and so on are rusted. What is the best way to remove undercarriage rust and protect it? I was thinking of stripping the "goo" off w/degreaser and removing the rust with maybe "rust reformer" and using one of those rubberized under coats?

The plan for the car is show&(mostly) go. This engine is just going to be in there long enough for me to add basic mods and rebuild the old engine fory the most n/a hp possible augmented by N2O use. I am not going to lower the car as the roads and pot holes around here would eat it alive. Here is what I hope to have as the final product(flame senses tingling)......

Short term--------------Engine: Ka24e(eventually built w/ N2O)Engine dressup: plug wires, new grounding kit, new hoses, etcColor: Red w/black highlightsRims: not sure yetIntake: InjenExhaust: Headers, high flow cat, and catback(2.25" or 2.5")Tires: Yokahoma(had 'em on my last 240 and loved 'em)Suspension: OEM springs(powder coated red) & KYB GR2sUnderdrive Pulley(s)Body kit: probably PDM side skirts & revalance w/ 89-90 front lip and either an erebuni spoiler or type x and shaved antennaInterior: Black w/ red high lights, reverse glow gauges, custom built in-car computer(I studied IT for 3 yrs), digital A/F, volt, temp gauges.

Long term Engine plans-----------------------------Ka24e(any mods from short term will be carried over or replaced)Rebuild & timing kitPDM stage II camsForged/coated pistons w/upgraded rods(?)New engine mounts not sure what type yet.N2O setup, no more than 100hp(MAX)

There it is any input is welcome, positive or negative. I will definately be doing a lot more research before I dive into building the next engine for my 240. Thanx for all the help I have already gotten.

Looks good to me, although everyone else will say go DOHC but this way you can be a one cam wonder. :D Oh, and I doubt you'll need aftermarket rods for only running a relatively small amount of naws...Good luck on the replacement but sorry I don't have some tech advice. :(

Yea, I wanted to stick w/ SOHC to be different. As for the tech advice, I was just looking for input of any kind. I appreciate the response. Thanks.

Oh, and to go in the Long Term section: You should really look into some skilled head work. A good port & polish and valve job will really help open up that new top end with the cam. ;)

You'll probably want some fuel mods for that nitrous..

Seva- Yea I am going to check into a local shop that I heard about or send it to either gude or flatlander, some where.

cav- I was thinkinking of atleast a walbro pump. Would I need injectors, ya think?

I was also curious about raising the compression to 9.5:1(saw it in the 240sx.org faq) but i wasn't sure what effect this would have on nitrous use. Any ideas?

Edit: I was also looking into these brake upgrades; rotors, pads and lines from pdm. Anyone use them?

as soon as cardomain starts working again ill show you a pic of how to disconnet the driveshaft.

As far as upgrades, going N/A on either of the KA's is has a very poor money spend to horsepower gained ratio. If you really want to make the 240 fly on the streets:

suspension suspension suspension! coilovers or good shocks and springs with some swapbars and chassis stiffining bars (STB's) will make the car feel a ton better on the road. There are lots of good things said about Yokohama AVS es100's. so rims and tires is a good way to improve handeling characteristics as well. a 300zx front brake swap is another easy yet very rewarding upgrade.

just undo 3 of the bolts and move the engine forward (dont forget to take off the shifter first!)

and there are a gazillion more pictures of my KA removal here: http://www.cardomain.com/membe...age=2

Yea I know I would get a better gain by going turbo of some sort but I don't want the hassel that comes with it. Maybe some day I will, right now i just want more than stock(even just a little). As for suspension upgrades, I was already looking into(planning) swaybars and strut bars. Thanks for the info on the driveshaft and the link.

Ok I have some more questions, big surprise. For one thing I was searching around and found some lowering springs(or coilovers, cant remember now) from a company called DropZone, I know I have seen their ads before somewhere(magazine I think), has anyone tried them? I was thinking maybe about 1" drop? The other thing was about aftermarket ignition coils, I saw a few threads but no one answered them(so I doubt anyone will now either). Can one be put in an s13? Before anyone starts screaming "ricer" I know ignition upgrades don't affect hp, I was looking at reliability.
