Planning to buy 2009 EX35 Journey AWD. What price to pay?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hello everybody Just started researching the price for 2009 EX35. From my experience so far, it seems there aren't many out there. I have heard from two different dealers that there are only 97 of them in whole US at present , so its hard to get one esp if you are particular about color. I have an offer which is -Infiniti EX35 Journey AWD with Premium , Nav, 18" wheels, roof rail crossbars, cargo area protector (No tech package, No lux package). MSRP is about 42,400. One dealer offered me 1200 less than MSRP and sounded like didn't really care about selling it. Another dealer has offered me only 3000 less than MSRP which almost comes down to its Invoice. I checked in Edmunds.com and the TMV (true market value) for EX35 with above features was 40,300. Now from what Ihave read so far in forums esp with ref to 2008 EX35, people have been paying much less than that , in some cases almost 10K less than MSRP. Haven't seen much being discussed about 2009 model. Can someone please suggest what would be the right price to ask for and please share your buying experience. I would appreciate if someone can post details of their recent purchase. Thanks in advance.

Invoice minus factory to dealer incentives and any customer cash or rebates. Check edmunds for the current incentives.

My understanding of the current incentives is $4,000 factory to dealer cash, if the customer does not use the special factory financing or lease plan. In California I am seeing most dealers sell out of thier EX35's. Some have no inventory. It's hard to get the max discount when they arent having a problem selling them for more. My research shows you would be doing well to get $3,000 off MSRP if you are using the special Infiniti financing, If not, I would say 6,500 Off would be doing very well. As I said, it might be real tough given the current inventory problems. I was lucky, I bought July 4th, everyone had some inventory and I was able to get the color and options I wanted with a $6,500 discount, I paid cash. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info scott . I called the dealer and he agrees to give me the car for 6500 less MSRP. Now the problem is this, Actually I have never driven EX35 , its only based on my impression about the infiniti, my friends recommending it and reviews online. I live in a small town in Nebraska and have to travel 250 miles to nearest dealer. My dealer suggested that I drive the car before making a decision which is well understood. Nobody in this place has one.Now any of you guys out there have any suggestion. I am single, professional, feel the car should be fun to drive, should have great looks, and should have some space for occasional 1 week trips with friends. I do understand buying a car without driving it sounds stupid, but I will appreciate your inputs and may help me in making a decision even after I test drive EX35.

I can only tell you my experience. My wife and I test drove the G37, a VW Jetta TDI, BMW 328i, The BMW 1 series and none of them were comfortable for myself. The EX35 was the only vehicle that fit the bill. We wanted a vehicle that was on the small side, easy to park, good looking, offered a real nice interior, good performance, rear wheel drive (California Use, no Snow) the EX35 did it all. I would have bought the M35, my wife felt it was too big, she really prefered the EX. We both love driving the car. The optional 360 camera is wonderful, the Navigation works great, we love the stereo, what more can I say. The only car I would have purchased over the EX was the BMW 5 series. My wife and I loved the car, the problem was the price. We traded a 9 year old Infiniti i30 on this car, it gave us excellent service, that was another reason we wanted to stay with Infiniti. I would recommend you test drive the car before you write the check, good luck.

Fun to drive? Definitely. This car has gobs of power to spare, and the handling is excellent especially considering the good ride, which gets even better with passengers onboard.

Great looks? Check! Once you get used to the long hood, you'll realize that this is a gorgeous sports car with a hatch back. The new Infiniti M continues the look with the same flowing hood and the beautiful character line on the side.

Looks like you are the perfect candidate for EX ownership, especially if you only need "some space". How many friends are you taking on your 1 week trips? If it's more than 2, then you may want to consider getting a roof rack for the luggage or getting a vehicle with a larger hatch.

I took a trip with 2 people for a week. We had to flip down 1 seat to accommodate all the luggage. 4 people traveling with rollaboards will not work if you do not put your luggage on the roof.
