i used to have a 92 fastback and i got rid of it cuz it had a crap load of problems and it was an automatic. i got an mr2 but i am having 240 withdrawel symptoms so.........im coming back to the 40 side. but now im in a bit of a new world because i dont have the car yet, and i want to see this through all the way. im just curious about how much a GOOD sr20det swap is gonna cost me, and what are all the things that i am gonna need to get it runnin dang near perfect when i put it the car. i am planning on purchasing the engine and modding it BEFORE i put it in. is that a wise idea or not? how much would a COMPLETE rebuild kit cost me? has anyone done it? and well basically what are the best places to purchase an engine from? cuz i dont wanna get F*****! i have a good idea of the suspension im goin to do to it, debating between coilovers and springs/strut set.im sure coilovers are better but id like to hear from people that have had BOTH.but basically what is goin to be a total cost for an engine and whether or not it will be better to mod it before or AFTER i swap it. thanks!

Hey man, the 'full swap' is just a front clip....runs you about 3000 dollars to 5000 dollars, depending on whether you get the s13, s14, or s15 front clip. That is basically everything you need to do the swap. You should research on this site a little more and you will find everything else you need. Now depending on what you mean by 'runnin dang near perfect', that is a very broad question. That really depends on what kind of hp you are going for. As far as modding the motor before or after, I personally would wait until the motor is in the car and running perfect. Otherwise, you could mod it to death and put it in the car and not know what the problem is when it wont start up....but that is only my opinion. As far as a rebuild kit, you shouldnt need that until a while down the road, granted you run the sh*t out of that motor, but otherwise, if you can rebuild a motor, it should be < 1000. But if you have to take it somewhere, you could be looking at upwards of 3000-4000(these are just estimates, plz dont get mad if they are a little off). For purchasing the engine, that has been posted hundreds of times. I have only heard good things about HeavyThrottle and .....someone else...cant remeber now. As far as the coilovers opposed to struts/springs, I have only had struts/springs(koni yellows/ ibach ...something) and I loved them....they cost me about 500 total. Hope this helps a little bit.

ya that all actually helps a whole lot. and you have a good point about modding afterwards, i hadnt ever thought about that. hp wise, i just want like 350-450 at max probably. but would it be hard to do the clip? or would it be just as good to swap the engines? ya i dont plan on being able to do this for a few more months, but i want to have it all planned out before i even get there. but probably to get everything that i need it would just be a whole front clip to make sure huh?
