Maybe you business/marketing majors have something to say, but IMO, their advertising tactics are targeting the market that just begs to give up money to get in shape...those that have gone to "gyms" only to be intimidated and not go, thus not renewing memberships.

I agree, that's pretty damn clever. Great way of establishing a niche and separating themselves from the dozens of competitors out there.

However, one thing irks me: they have pizza parties!?!?!?

Here's a guy roiding out because the staff asked him to stop grunting:

The whole thing is kind of retarded IMO. If you're actually working out hard then you're exerting yourself. And its hard as hell to stay quiet when you're really pushing the limit. So they kick you out for grunting? So that other people dont get "intimidated"? Grow a set of balls for christ's sake. The people in there that are buff and "intimidating" got that way from working hard, all you have to do is the same thing.

I was a PF member a few years back and I still grunted on squats and heavy weight movements. I did not, however, grunt like Schwarzenegger in Predator throughout the entire set. There plenty of clowns that do that for attention at other gyms (Golds, Bally's etc) and I can see how it gets annoying. But intimidating? Stop being a pussay

And bagel with cream cheese breakfasts.

I was also a PF member for a few years. I heard the "Lunk Alarm" once. A dude legitimately dropped a weight (like mishandled it and it fell from his hands). A woman "squatting" near him actually went to the front desk to say something and then they sounded off. I think they were just so happy to be able to sound the alarm they did it even though it was minutes later.

I have no problem with people grunting and dropping weights at their sides if the exercise permits. What I find funny is that PF sponors The Biggest Loser. Watch an episode of that and see how much grunting, screaming, cursing, and other vocal activities go down during that show. Might see some dropped weights to boot.

Werent there a few law suits in Vermont regarding someone being asked to leave?

EDIT: Also, that guy roid raging out is amazing. I love things like that.

Lunk alarm?! That is hilarious. Admittedly, noisy guys are annoying to me. Even in my heyday, deadlift sets up to 405,I was still one of the more quiet people in the gym. Sure the air would hiss past my teeth, and my face would scrunch up, but my vocal cords never got a workout.

Not everyone can be quiet during a workout. Pain tolerance isn't the same for everyone.

Asking someone to stop grunting is stupid in a gym setting. Next thing you know we are going to start asking mothers in labor to be quiet too. Sounds reasonable?

In addition, can we stop fluids from leaking too! Everyone who's stood barefoot in a puddle of amniotic fluid, raise their hand.
