since my engine is shot, what would be a good course of action for me with $1700 to spend? the turbo is shot to hell too. i'm amazed the damn thing didnt throw a rod..

oh, and i still need that circuit diagram for the hud speedo. not the cluster, just the speedo.

A crank regrind and bottom end balance, new bearings all round and a new set of rings, and forged pistons, and a new turbo and metal head gasket if you can strech to it. :)

How bout boring it out .040 over and getting a custom stroker kit. Your crank would be stroked, all bearing journals would be nickle-chrome coated, new forged pistons with any compression you want and ceramic top coat, and a set of Deves rings for about $1,300. Would take you up to 2.0 liters.

you should go je or wiseco pistons might as well hone the block a bit to get a bit more displacement some carillo rods those are bulletproof. crank regrind and balance with all the new components on it. new bearings from nissan and a meatal headgasket. from all that you can boost that motor to 30psi with some ample fuel. my 2 cents

ive got the fuel supply, well, i will before the engine runs again. ive also got the drivetrain to handle it. its basically 1700 bucks that is JUST going into rebuilding the engine. getting this car back on the road in top-notch condition is my number one priority right now. i was planning on probably at least some forged pistons and getting the rods shot-peened.

myetball, if you can get me bearings, a metal head gasket and all the bolts/studs i need with all that you can consider it done! i'd still need a turbo though...maybe i should try doing it a little cheaper, perhaps without the rods.. im not trying to make all that much power..

haha, wish i knew what happened. the compression test told me the rings were a bit on the tired side, but "nothing to worry about" as dee said. guess they werent as good as we all thought. im thinking im going to head over to Jarco with you guys and bring a couple hundred dollars to see if i can score the gauges and electronics and turbo (if possible) that i need for my rebuild project.

im really not upset anymore, i was really getting bored with not being able to work on it as it is my favorite past time. ive got a very good friend with a 3000sq ft garage that i can work on the car in - if i decide not to do it at my house. ive already got an engine stand and my engine hoist and all the tools i'll ever need. so i think im covered. thank you very much for the offer though, it really made my day.

to tell you the truth, if i had some rod bearings i could have rebuilt the engine in the wendy's parking lot. i thought it might take a dump on me so i brought all the tools my little brother got me for christmas - 3/8in and 1/2in ratchets and sockets from 8-24mm (17-19 for both drives and 20+ being for 1/2), a voltage meter, 24 pice screwdriver set, 8 piece pliers set, a cheater bar, 1/2 in 18in long breaker bar, 3/8 to 1/2 adapter, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12in extensions for both drives, large and small vise grips, cutters, razor knife, and even the necessary tool to check the bearing clearances! but i was nowhere near an auto parts store.
