I have a 2008 and I understand the jump from the S badged and the SL badged Versa but mine is not an S or an SL but seems to fit squarely in the middle as I have more options than some of the S's I have seen and yet no where near the swag of the SL.

I was looking on the official Versa site and it really doesn't clear it up because all they list is the S and SL where does my unbadged plain Versa fit?

I also saw a few Versa without a trim badge at my dealer.

I asked the salesman and he said they were S but just did not have the badge. He did not know why.

My 07 had the S trim badge, my 08 did not, but they were both S models

They probably rolled down the assembly line during the afternoon siesta time.

The 08 models have much more options for an S than the 07 models did, so you could just basically have a fully loaded S model. And yes it is somewhat common not to have the S badge.

My Versa is missing screws and various connectors. I think the Mexicans may be a bit lazzy and or Nissan tells them to cut corners. Thus why the S is missing. They probably used to many that day and the guy who makes them was busy driving his "friends" over the border for "work".

...wow... that's some nice racism popping up in this thread.

Consider that your average UAW worker is about as lazy/apathetic. They just leech more money from the parent company, forcing higher prices. At least with something built across the border you're not getting raped for someone sitting on their arse.

Not quite racism when in actuality the people building the car are Mexicans are they not? Not sure what is racists about the statement?

though the term that came to my mind wasn't racist, but rather something to do with a sun-burned neck.

It reminded me of any one of the [seems like] thousands of e-mails I get from a guy I know in California, that keeps talking about "the illegals" and how they should be sent back because they aren't welcome in the US . . . just want free health care and a better life, you know . . .

I remind him of the fact that his great-greats were at one time unwelcome aliens as well, but it falls on deaf ears.

But I digress [and I guess continue to:] . . . I'm with EV here . . . the CAW is still "fighting for the little guy" up here . . . even though the average auto worker wage is about $70K a year. Wish I made that -- and I'm a white collar university grad!

My comment wasn't meant to be racist by any means.

It's a part of the Mexican culture to take a 15-30 minute siesta, usually after lunch (wish we could do that here, as I could typically use a power nap after eating). And during this time, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Nissan kept the line running to crank out as many vehicles as possible in a given day.

...that is, if they are even allowed to siesta at the plant.

I have an unbadged Versa 2007 hatchback. After some discussion with EV we came to the conclusion that it was a SL. One way he told me how to identify the differences was the interior. If it is flat woven cloth in all likelihood it is a SL. If it is Suede it is a S. It is very unlikely that anyone has tore out the interior and put an SL interior in a S (This was a quote from EV). Always cite the author.

Steelisreal:If you have an S, you don't have the center armrest or the map lights, or pockets in all your doors, or cupholders out the wazoo (I just wanted to write 'wazoo')

S's come with lots and lots of options too... But they still lack the stuff listed above. Oh, and they have steel wheels with hubcaps where all SL's have alloy wheels.

Thanks Kimber and Franko.

Di Versa Fy - Though I am not personally offended by your remarks, you might still want to filter yourself. NICO is an international organization, and we have both Mexican and Hispanic American members on this board.

Dejawiz - your comment wasn't the one I was worrying about.

Papa is right about the easiest way to tell the difference between an S and SL. Thanks for remembering that conversation.
