Well, the piston needs to be out of the block which, in a nut shell means pulling the head and oil pan, undoing the rod bolts and pulling the rod-top and piston out (if you don't want to pull the engine). If you're not careful installing piston rings, they will break. There is also an order to the installation of the rings on each piston. And, you'll need a ring compressor to reinstall the piston into the cylinder bore. If you plan on doing this yourself, get assistance from an experienced mechanic or friend.
I've had great experience with Wiseco piston rings ... using them with the CP's for my build. Not certain about the OEM's when it comes to boost.
It's always a good idea to do a rod and piston upgrade at the same time, if not just for the added aggrevation and cost of doing them separately. Low(er) compression pistons will allow for higher boost; forged rods will add strength. Save money and time ... do them together.
