That web site is awful. You click "more info" and it gives you a reach around. I don't know who wrote that description either, but they cannot speak english. Why don't you guys just get them on the cheap from one of our sponsors?

Crappy link and website as well. For most of you guys dreams, the stock pistons are more than enough. Donate that dough towards some type of upgraded engine management system. Those pistons will mash-up just like stock if you disobey the rules of boosting. All this means is that forged pistons are not insurance for ignorance. Wow, that sounds like a good addition to my sig .

+1 to what dee said. one ****up can destroy a motor. I just had to tear mine back apart because of 1 single simple knock. thats all it takes.

I used to knock the piss out of my CA dabbling with MBT and timing maps.

Im going to have to disagree with you Dee, forged pistons are insurance for ignorance. The knock I encountered would have pitted cast piston tops, broke ring langs, and just utterly destroyed them period. 127 counts on my PFC hand commander, around 80 is audible to a trained ear.

It all comes down to how keen your ear is and how FAST you LIFT. Remeber that knock propogates like a mofugger under heavy load. Once it starts, it rapidly starts multiplying till you have a piston in your oil pan, or rod hanging out the side of your block.

ks13, I will meet your knock and raise you! On stock pistons mind you, I managed to hit a big 'ol 297 on my SAFCII knock meter. I put my foot down and when i got to 6000rpm in 3rd it goes "BANG" "BANG." It was so loud it damn near knocked the fillings out of my teeth! I was so sure I nuked something I went as far as to ask Dee about a new set of pistons before I even pulled the head off. The line to the WG had melted against the manifold and the WG stayed closed. I think my crappy Autometer gauge read 21psi before it went to hell.

When I pulled off the head, no damage. WIN!!!1ONE!!

The stock pistons are freaking immortal.

Hey there was wondern if u guys would be able to help me with a little problm.

i been looking at an S13 CA18DET 4 sale. a compression test showed 155 on 3 out of 4 cylinders and 125 on 1 cylinder. the car doesnt overheat at all and drives fine under boost but it misses when driven at higher revs or over 2 or 3 pounds ov boost. on idle it has a little bit of darkish grey blue sort of smoke with what looks like some sort of residue coming out with it in small amounts.

so what would be the most probable cause and what else could this problem have done to the engine??

Chur.

It's had a hard life. Sounds like it would be due for a rebuild.

I have jimmied them off before, it took ages and a lot of wd40 lubrication spray.

However the easiest way is to drill a hole deep enough to tap a thread in each side of the sprocket, then use a mechanical puller of some description to remove it.

I would also recommend replacing the woodruff key (the half sphere metal bit that aligns the sprocket). They can wear and chew out the balancer.

They are cheap in australia from nissan, $2 from memory.

I see further down the thread you found another set of rings. But if it helps, I am using pulsar everything in a det block

Far as I can tell de and det rods are the exact same. I've got pictures of them side by side!
