I just performed a compression test on my baby and it was very low on all 4 cylinders (under 150 for all 4) standard is around 179 IIRC. I proceeded to pour a capful of oil into each cylinder then retest each one. the readings i got were about 200-210 a cylinder. So from this i assume that my rings are bad! the engine has 115k on her and i never take her up into the high rpms or bash on her at all. so my question is, how easy is it to replace the rings? Could i do it myself? I have done my brakes and vlsd, just wanted to know if it was feasible at all to undergo it myself! Does anyone have any ideas or advice for me? thanks in advance. Logan

Are you serious?!?!? 181?!?! DAYUM!!! I didnt' finish doing the test on the other 3 cylinders. We had some problems getting an extension piece off my block!! thought we were going to have to pull the head to get that stupid thing off. Anti-sieze glue stuff works miracles though. I am kinda itching to find out what the other 3 are at though. I'm jealous of your car's motor :pface

have a machine shop do your rings ..its not to much and besides if anything else is wrong with the block they'll let ya know..of course you will need to extract the engine and tear it down your self. but thats just nuts and bolts...lol

130k miles, (after 30k miles of beating on a 100k mile SOHC):150,170,170,145

140k miles, after 10k more of beating, the 2 weeks of turboing and pinging for a week while thinking the noise was my timing chain:110,150,150,105.

Need to replace ringsWhere is cheap place to get those Altima rings, and do they come in different sizes? Will I have to get the cylinders honed?
