I'm rebuilding a KA24E....on the bottom ring land ..the corrugated looking ring..it has a thin wire running through it from the ring manufacturer. Does this stay on when installed or do you take it out? I do not remember this being on the rings I took off the pistons when I tore the engine down. Is this just something to keep it intact during shipping? Admittedly noob question . I have done domestic engine builds and never found this thin wire on the rings. My gut feeling is you remove it .....

Thanks for replies. Have seriously never seen it on a domestic..The squiggly ring yes....the wire through it ..no. Last rebuild I did was to a 273 Plymouth engine though in a 65 barracuda. Looking at the ring for the 240 it did seem it should stay on because of the grooves cut into the rings for the wire to pass through though. The "ring" would scrape regardless of that wire. The fsm pictured the scraper ring but it was not clear there was any additional wire on the scraper. It didn't seem any additinal wire was really needed either because the scraper is between two solid rings and would be compressed to stay in position by the cylinder wall when installed. I will take the advice of people who have done rebuilds on 240's before and keep the little wires in. Just had to ask before installing it. A bit late to ask after you fire it up.......
