So is there any kind of middle ground when it comes to piston choices? Anything between stock and $400 forged? I'm wanting to turbo my de(shooting for 200-250hp) but it has 185,000 mi so it burns kinda bad at times. So i figured while i have it apart to replace rings, i might as well do something about pistons too since they are the weakest part, but like a lot of people, im trying to do this on a tight budget. Im lookin for some used forged maybe($200ish), but It's hard to find a set of used stock bore forged.- first post so please be gentle.lol

it will be hard to find new forged pistons for under 200 bucks, you could try getting them used or cyro treat some oem ones

Do a compression check to see if it's actually the piston rings that are causing oil burnoff, not the valve seals.

I did a compression test and I got a little over 150 for all 4. So you say its the valve seals then? Is that a difficult fix? And i did say used forged pistons for 200. But i've heard mixed things about crytreating. For the most part it sounds to be worthless. And i have a friend who is somewhat experienced with these cars who said around 170,00 mi these motors blow if you you dont replace the timing chains. Has anyone else heard of this. My timing is still dead on and i dont think anything has been replaced.

Just re-hatch the bore and rering the stock pistons. Cheap and pretty easy.
